This is why Popavich only wants foreign guys. He wants nothing to do with an AAU player.

Yeah- because AAU players and high level recruits simply never make it in the NBA.

Signed,

A ton of allstars and NBA champions.

Yep.

LeBron, Durant and Rose played AAU. Among many other non-NBA winners.

You're selecting 3 players who are in a league of their own. Popavich has stated many times that he despises the AAU system bc of the mindset and attitude it produces, as well as the style of basketball it teaches. Selfish play. One on one pay. No defense. Street ball. Whereas foreign players are taught the right way to play basketball from a very young age. Foreign countries produce a completely different payer than AAU here in the states. And Pop's foreign preference seems to have worked out pretty well for him over the years. Danny Green, a member of the Spurs and former AAU player, was booted a week into his rookie season with the Spurs by Pop because Pop didn't like his attitude and style of play. Green ended up modeling his attitude after Ginobli and learned to play the Spur way, and now is flourishing. Sure you have players in the league like Lebron, Durant, Rose, George, etc that were AAU players that are now the best players in the world, but that's a type of talent that is so rare and will flourish no matter what system they were taught.

RE: Awesome Niels Giffey Quote
I selected three players off the top of my head. There are a ton more.

Th argument here is not whether or not AAU ball can sometimes result in some bad playing tendencies. It can.

I was addressing the idea that AAU players as a rule cannot win because they are selfish (and that comment is nothing more than our typicals taking more shots at Joe Jackson) and therefore teams should simply get nothing but foreign players - which was just another backwards shot at our own kids.

Focus on the issue. Think deeper.
