"America's team"?

Everyone except Pens fans are cheering for the Jackets.

Did Stamkos win last night? I missed it.

I really hope the organization can stay alive down here, but they're currently on life support. Not a good situation one bit.

to the point of being relocation bait?

If Quebec City, Hamilton, or Seattle put enough money down, absolutely. I'm a huge fan of hockey in the South, the complete opposite of what the hockey purists of Canada and Boston believe in, hence why I dislike them so much. They say teams in the South can't work, yet the Lightning have had top 10 attendance the past three seasons. It's sad that this is not the case for the Panthers. Unfortunately, due to situations like Atlanta, Phoenix, and the Panthers, this next wave of NHL relocation/expansion will be in their favor. I hope the Panthers can get REAL ownership, that is 110% committed to hockey in South Florida. A tad bit more than a decade ago, Tampa and Pittsburgh were in the same boat that the Panthers are in now. Then supportive owners took over, invested in the community and arenas, had a strong front office to afford veteran leaders while drafting young superstars, and great marketing, and now they're organizationally the two most respected clubs in the league.

If it helps, the Panthers need exactly what the Tampa Bay Rays got a few years ago. Now all the Rays need is a new stadium in Tampa, NOT in St. Pete.

I'd argue that the Blackhawks have had an incredible organizational turnaround in the last decade, as well.

I attended a Panthers home game a few weeks ago while I was traveling for work and was surprised at the location, which seemed a little on the outskirts, right on the metro area border up against the Everglades. Also, it seemed odd that they located the stadium right beside that mall. I parked for free by the mall and walked to the stadium. Missing out on potential parking revenue there.

It's post like that which is why y'all are no where near America's team. You had to come back to beat what is most likely the worst team in the playoffs. We lost in OT to arguably the third best team in the East for just the second time this year.

I remember the days when the Penguins were bankrupt because they had ZERO fan support, giving Lemieux the majority of the organization because he was owned the most money. But yet only Tampa fans are the bandwagons, despite being in the top ten in attendance the past two seasons, including out third to last record in the NHL season of 2013.

Very true! Thank you for reminding me about Chicago.

Mind if I ask which game you went to down here? Thanks to the prices and the drive, I'm able to attend most games.

The Pens had plenty of fan support. They also had an extremely outdated facility that posed several problems: 1) limited suites didn't allow for revenue & corporate sponsorship, 2) limited seating (~15K) didn't allow the team to turn a profit at the gate, 3) cramped & outdated locker & training facilities kept free agents away. So they we're lean for some years about a decade ago. Big deal. They've got the new facility & have retooled. Are you going to tell me how bad Minnesota or Winnepeg or Hartford fans are because they're teams actually DID move? I don't think so. Those decisions - like Pittsburgh's - were based on municipal leaders' decisions to fund a new arena. We got ours; they didn't. You'll be in the same boat pretty soon too, I suppose.

Nope, ten year old arena that just got a major renovation to once again become arguably the best in the league. And I love how a bad stadium is an excuse for Northern sports fans, but God forbid Tampa fans complain about Tropicana Field for the Rays. Those selfish and cheap Tampa fans should just deal with it!

Look, you made the comment that the Pens were broke & lacked support. I contend that they were just broke, for reasons beyond the fan bases' control. Either way, that stuff is germane to the situation today. Crosby > Stamkos; Penguins > Lightning!

Well, luckily we'll all get to witness the annual Penguin choke job in the playoffs.

No one expected Tampa to make it far. We had captain controversy, tons of injuries and we're icing rookies for half the team, as well as having our starting goalie injured.

Pittsburgh's only excuse when they lose is that it's all the officials' fault! That and they're the biggest choke artists in Professional Hockey.

I'm a Pens fan, but you're probably right. And one thing I'll never understand is why Pens fans aren't as fervent as Steelers' fans. The Pens really should have one of the rowdiest fan bases in hockey if you think about the reputation that Steelers fans have earned over the years.

Oh. That's supposed to be clever. You may wanna practice your witty remarks.

I'm not upset. At the beginning of the season, I ddin't expect Tampa to make the playoffs. Especially not when Stamkos got injured for months and St. Louis left the team.

But we scored 101 points with a team full of rookies and injuries like crazy.

Wait until Tampa gets Drouin on the team and shores up our defense. Tampa will be scary.

As for the Penguins, you have an expensive team that will be very hard to stay cap compliant with for long. You'll continue to do well in the regular season, only to collapse in the playoffs.
