Julian, may be our punter, this year, great leg, watched him in spring practice this year. Crowd was great, better then having it on Fri night. All things considered the defense on both sides was very good. I think this coming season will be very good, not like the way we finished last year.

With all the off-season surgeries, it's a good indicator of what happened last year.

If I remember correctly there was approx 7-8 surgeries plus other non surgery, concussion issues toward end of last year. Healthy, we were not. Still doesn't matter, no opponent gives you any points for your bad luck injury wise.

RE: Spring Game
Was really impressed with our team. My son and his friend enjoyed the clinic. Our guys are physically impressive. I noticed a lot of speed as well. Looks to me like this will be a special year. 14 is our lucky number - plus it was my jersey number as a kid so it has to be lucky. I really feel good about our team and the upcoming season!!!

2014 the year of the Rockets!!!

Go Rockets!!!

So, are you willing to proclaim: "GO FOR 14 IN 14"?

That would require the team to go 14-0 and for any team to go undefeated requires a lot of talent, a favorable schedule and lots of luck. The vast majority (probably 90%) of college football teams have a flat out zero probablility of pulling it off even before the season begins, yet almost every year it seems that about 1% do manage to get the near impossible job done.

I think that this team may actually have the players in place personnel wise to have a very small, yet finite probability of pulling such a miracle off but going 14-0 would also likely include a BCS bowl victory and would also require strong player leadership, no lapses in focus, near perfect coaching, no injuries and a lot of luck.

Obviously this is a very, very long shot under the best of conditions; however, somewhere lurking in the preseason shadows, that possibility, albeit very slim, exists IMHO.

PS: The last time I felt this way about a Rocket football team was in 2011 and FWIW that team caught some bad breaks and went 9-4

The Rockets have a shot, but we'll know early in the schedule.I don't expect a lot of trouble from New Hampshire. I believe Mizzou and UCinn, both will come out throwing the FB with Mauk and Kiel.
Then start the MAC schedule with Ball State. 3 of 4 tough opponents right out of the chute.

No kidding!

Most of his throws were on the money, and he seemed to have good feel for the pocket. Woodside did not have a good day, but his protection was pretty poor, especially in the second half. Connery Smith seemed to be in on quite few plays. Alonzo Russel seemed his regular reliable self, Robert Michaels made plays at TE, and Zach Yousey made a lot of catches. It looks like Julian Michael will be 3rd string, if not red-shirted, but he did have a nice punt. Other than that, there were quite a few guys who did not dress; Kareem Hunt, Damion Jone-Moore, Mancz, Voss, etc. I don't recall seeing Chaz Whitaker, Ray Bush, or Junior Sylvestre. They may have played, but not all the numbers on the handout matched the players on the field, and some players on the field were not listed at all. It was nice to be out in the Glass Bowl, but I can see why spring games are starting to disappear. I'm not sure how much an evaluation coaches can make with so many starters sitting out and playing with mixed squads.

Ely was 17 of 30, Woodside 15 of 27 with 2 picks. Good turnout by former Rockets.

Since there was a total of two pass break ups, I wonder why 23 passes were incomplete. I am guessing that some were due to QB hurries. Wonder how many were due to good coverage.

I always thought good pass coverage was mostly/partly a result of a good rush!

RE: Spring Game
It was pretty windy; there were some overthrows. Factor in quite a few high snaps--some REAL high. Then some balls going to guys who don't have a lot of experience in game situations. The vanilla offense probably wasn't too tough for the defense to figure out. Both QB's were a tad over 50%. All things considered, that's probably why their %'s weren't higher. In spite of the wind both guys got some real nice throws in, though. It wasn't all dinkin' and dunkin'.

Thanks for filling in blanks TF1st. The play of the secondary could mean the difference between a good defense and a really stout and stellar D unit. How many times last season did the defense put the opposition into third and long only to have the secondary get beat giving up the first down?
