More pre-season pub. Cato comes in 12th. Man, I'm looking forward to this season.

I love how UAB fans can still joke about their plight. Some of my favorite fans on here.

I'm looking forward to seeing if MT can slow down that "CATO Airshow" that was promised by Marshall when they decided on the Blue Raiders for Homecoming...

Really? Come on try harder, we ALL knew who would be number one, but not making the list is a joke.

It is quite strange. I figured he would be in the teens on this list.

He should, we both know that Cato and Carden have no chance to win the Heisman, when with an undefeated season beating everyone 20+. The best we could hope and Marshall fans is an invite to NYC. Because our guys aren't in a P5 school. We both know it's BS, but it is what it is.

Lot of good QBs on that list, but I'd take the guy with these stats on any given Saturday.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2013 - 387/549 for 70.5% completion rate / 4139 yards / 33 TD / 10 INT and a 150.0 RAT. He threw 136 more passes then the previous year and completed 114 of those additional passes. (114 of 136) He also rushed for 10 TD and caught a TD pass for a total of 44 TD last year.

Man, that's good, almost as many TDs as Cato. Well, except in the games they faced each other. Cato 7 passing TDs, 2 INT, 2 rushing TDs. Carden 3 passing TDs, 3 INT, 4 rushing TD. Oh, Cato only played 6 1/2 quarters in those two games, Carden played 8 plus 3 overtimes.

Banker, just a note brother. I'm not a Marshall hater and my comment had nothing to do with Cato being on that list and everything to do with Carden not being on that list. Please don't turn the thread into a ECU/Marshall pissing match. I've never had anything bad to say about Marshall or its fans and I'd like to keep it that way.

I can't speak for all of us, but this Marshall fan also thinks Carden was robbed. I would not trade Cato for anyone, but Carden is a great player. He should be on the list.

RE: Top 25 QBs for 2014
I am not posting to put a knock on ECU, Marshall, Carden or Cato. I am posting because, if Cato is on the list, and if ECU fans feel strongly that Carden also should be on the list, then I submit that there is a second C-USA quarterback that should have been included.

In 2013, of the three, ODU's Taylor Heinicke had the highest QB Rating at 158.6. He had the second best completion percentage at 70% to Carden’s 70.5%. He had the second most yards at 4022, while playing one less game than Carden and two less games than Cato, resulting in the highest yards per attempt at 8.3. He tied Carden at 33 TDs, six less than Cato, but, again while playing two fewer games than Cato and one less than Carden. He threw the least number of interceptions at 8. He had the least number of sacks at 19, and ran for the most yards (348) and 5 TDs. Heinicke is the fastest of the three with a 4.64 time in the 40, according to NFLDraftScout.com. And, by the way, he also punted 13 times for an average 41.5 yards per punt.

I would be surprised if those Pirate fans who saw Heinicke play at ECU last year would not agree that Heinicke belongs in the same conversation with Carden and Cato. In that game, he completed 38 of 51 (74.5%) for 338 yards and three TDs with no interceptions.

2013 Passer Efficiency Ratings
Taylor Heinicke 158.6
Shane Carden 150.0
Rakeem Cato 147.8

Player Team G Cmp Att Comp % Yds Yd/A TDs Int Sacked Yds
Heinicke ODU 12 340 486 70.0 4022 8.3 33 8 19 140
Cato Marsh 14 298 499 59.7 3916 7.8 39 9 25 172
Carden ECU 13 387 549 70.5 4139 7.5 33 10 29 190

I'd agree. Taylor had a phenomenal year last year and gave ECU everything it could handle. A tougher schedule this year than in the transition year ought to let him really showcase his talents. 04-cheers Here's to hoping he eats up NC State on Sept 6th.
