Jay Bilas and ESPN Insider rank SMU and UCONN in the top 15
(Sorry if already posted) Insider on ESPN ranks SMU at 10 and UCONN at 12. Jay Bilas ranks the top 15 contenders for next year. Here is a small quote from the article:
"Of course, The Bilas Index is more reliable than any resource ever invented to measure basketball accomplishment. It relies upon all of the best metrics in the game, especially ESPN's Basketball Power Index, but also has access to the greatest evaluator of basketball prowess and capability and achievement: the massive brain of The Bilastrator. If this allows you to place a small wager on the eventual 2014-15 national champion now, well, you're welcome".ESPN INSIDER, BY Jay Bilas

Even though he is a Dukie, I agree. Love me some Bilas.

Anyone remember when people were clamoring for the AAC to hire Bilas as Commish?

SMU is certainly no accident. I am surprised it happens so fast however. Expect Houston and Sampson to also be there or close in the next few years.

Truth be told if Daniels comes back for UConn I would put them in the Top 5...people forget that Rodney Purvis is on their campus and has worked out with them all year.

I agree. I also think that if Brimah could polish up his offensive game and learn to stay out of foul trouble, he could be a monster.

Well, I may be a bit bias since he always shows UofL love. But I have always found him to be fair

His bashing of VCU prior to their final 4 was horrendous. Additionally his positions on pay for play and no sitout transfer rules would all benefit the "Duke's" of the world. How convenient!

I'm as big a UConn homer as you'll find, but no way does UConn lose Shabazz Napier and still rank in the top 5. Shabazz was that important to what this team accomplished.

Just look at what happened to the team the year after Kemba left. They brought in the #1 recruit in the country and had arguably more talent than the 2011 national champions. They certainly had more experience. Yet, without Kemba that team was lost on the court.

I'm not saying that UConn will be lost without Shabazz, but removing him makes them a completely different team. They'll still be very good, but not top 5.

Pre-season rankings are fun and I enjoy the discussion, but I keep in mind they are projections based on conjecture. For example, no media members I can recall last April predicted UConn to finish as NC and Cincy to win the AAC regular season.

Yes. An example is his treatment of VCU the year they made it to the FF. Bias blasted the Selection Committee for the termerity of naming VCU rather than the 6th or 7th place team from the P5. After VCU proved their worth, he did not admit his error. Instead he stated they did not belong in the first place! Only a lawyer will ignore actual results. It is a good thing he does not build bridges or someone will end up in the drink.

Memphis shouldn't start in the top-25, but we may end there...I love young, athletic, Tiger squads and that's what we'll have next season.

PG - Dom Magee/Pookie Powell (both four-star players)
G/F - Markel Crawford (four-star player)
G/F - Nick King (four-star player)
F - Austin Nichols (five-star player)
F - Shaq Goodwin (McDonalds All-American)
-----------------------
G - Damien Wilson (three-star player)
G/F - Kuran Iverson (four-star player)
G/F - Trahson Burrell (three-star player)
G/F - Chris Hawkins
C - Dom Woodson (four-star player)

Las Vegas Invitational (Memphis, Baylor, Illinois, SF Austin, Ind State...)
Wichita State (sanford pentagon)
Oklahoma State

You should probably send him to a few UCONN practices to work on his free throws... 05-stirthepot

I'm glad he's back though to help you guys 03-nutkick the ACC next year.
