This all reminds me of my good buddy who graduated from a school "to the south". He explained to me how it's done. You don't give money (cash) to the kid. You don't give money to mama or daddy. You give it to their preacher. It is a donation to their community. How the church disperses it's funds (especially cash) is a convoluted affair no one will ever really figure out.
