(04-10-2014 10:12 AM)arkstfan Wrote:  The claims of UMass being expelled suddenly changing the dynamic are specious. I know that AState leadership was aware of the UMass situation within a day or two of the MAC extending the full offer to UMass, it is implausible that the rest of the league was unaware. Therefore any impact UMass might have had on the situation took place nearly a month prior to the public announcement but the "insider" claims acted as if the news was new to the Sun Belt and significant enough to adjust the thinking on realignment when any adjustment would have happened nearly a month earlier and been reflected in the "insider" information, even if the cause of the change were not revealed.
Likewise, it is not plausible that the reported claims that JMU thinking changed upon the UMass announcement are accurate. If JMU were actively engaged with the MAC, they would have had some awareness of the MAC's action and even if the MAC held some fantastic hope of acceptance, the probability would be that if the Sun Belt is in active pursuit of JMU that the Sun Belt would have dashed that for JMU by giving indication that UMass was in active pursuit of Sun Belt membership thereby revealing UMass's choice.
The evidence strongly suggests the smoke has merely been hot air.

Though JMU's thinking may have not changed 'suddenly', the fact that UMass was being expelled (at whatever point they made the decision not to join the MAC) did and does put pressure on JMU to fish or cut bait.

If my math is right, there are 4 schools vying for one Sun Belt FBS slot; JMU, Missouri St., UMass and Liberty. That's a lot of suitors for one belle.

Question. Why would the Sun Belt go to 13 by inviting both JMU and Missouri St.?

220. They do a great job with the NHL, MLS, and Premier League.

What is the Premier League ?

The highest level of competition for British soccer. Teams like Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton compete in this league.

Because Idaho isn't a long-term solution.

Still say Coach Moore saw how upset Micky the Mouth was, and since he is such a good guy and they were friends, he called the dogs off the second half. Wished they had Matthew's comment before the game that was on TV....talking @ App State he was saying, "Who are these guy, who are they.. (reference to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kind). Will take our record over JMU anytime, but that game will be remember forever by both sides. As well as the game the year before where we beat you guys.
Oh, yeah...remember, I hate you guys, and I hate purple streamers.

Yeah, unless the culture of the Sun Belt has changed in the last year; we/they just don't do that.

Top to bottom I think it's more competitive than La Liga. Atletico, Real and Barcelona are playing a different level of soccer than anyone else there.

BPL down the stretch this season is going to be very interesting.

Having a hard time finding anything close that quote on that Twitter. This is what I see

" Bear Boulevard ‏@BearBoulevard 13h

@thejordanburton seems they're trying to add #MSUBears and JMU, kick out Idaho, add NMSU all sports to get to a solid 14.

Don't you think the Sun Belt would trade Idaho for either JMU or Missouri St. Inviting them both makes very good sense if Idaho is shown the door in a few years. It tightens the Sun Belt footprint.

The JMU president is in a tough spot. You're going to piss some people off whatever you decide. Boosters and alumni who paid for the new stadium and want FBS football. A fan base that appears split on the move and a faculty that appears to want to associate with more "prestigious" schools. Like someone said earlier the Board of Visitors is a formality and the action or inaction will fall on the head of the President.

I don't care where it ranks. I enjoy watching. This year with Suarez on pace to tie the goals in a season record for a 42 game season and probably break the now current 38 game season record and potentially do it playing on 33 games is an added bonus.

No. There is no exit clause. Just a clause that allows us to add all sports should we choose to. There is zero chance NMSU would turn down such an invite.

Remember, the SBC has always maintained a strong relationship with NMSU. Its not something we're going to just give up.

You're right, it's definitely a very different situation with UMASS. I see the Aggies coming along. My question would be, if Benson pulls this whole thing is he a genius?

Uhh...No. If this works, I wouldn't be shocked if you saw a couple notable Western Schools make a push for Benson's ouster. Could write it off as the perfect opportunity to finish the creation of our new image as a league.

The train is leaving the station. It may
Be the last train out of your little town to
The big city. Only one seat left. Are you
Going to care what car your seat is in. You
Can always move to a better seat when
Some of the others depart the train.

If you hesitate someone else buys the
Last seat. If that happens you really
Didn't want to leave the station.

I don't care one way or the other, but if it's the same person, this Brent Thibodeaux guy was the one that was DEAD WRONG about expansion concerning the WAC/MWC a few years ago.

Being FBS lets you schedule games no FCS team can. I love to read the post from App and Georgia Southern fans talking about home and home deals with other FBS teams.

JMU should be happy the Sun Belt is offering them a chance to play at the highest level in college football. JMU can win all the FCS titles they want and less than 30% of college football fans will know who they are. JMU will have more games on national TV in one season in the Belt than 5 years of in the FCS. Heck Georgia Southern has already gotten national TV games at home there first season in the Belt. One of those TV games is against App St who also will be playing there first season of FBS in the Belt.

Well, regarding TV, we had 3 on national TV last year, and over 5 since 2012.

But, your point stands. FCS is not followed outside of FCS schools.

Were those TV games on ESPN last year? I watch college football all day every Saturday and not once did I see an JMU game. When I say national TV, I means a Thursday night game on ESPN against another FBS team during primetime!

National on NBC Sports on Saturdays. Some primetime included, but 2nd rate network.

I remember it being quite a coup for an FCS league to sign such a deal with NBCSN for FB and BB. How long is that deal? I wonder if the deal will be renewed as ODU, VCU, GaSt, Mason, and UMass football leaving since the deal was signed. I really think a lot of it was to capitalize on Mason and VCU basketball. The CAA was a trendy BB league at the time.

West Bromwich Albion? Swansea? Cardiff City?

In contrast, Valladolid (one spot from relegation) beat Barca a few weeks back. There are also more La Liga sides advancing further in the two European competition than any other league (that's the top 6 teams from last year for the uninitiated).

Just for fun, the CL is down to 4. Two from Spain, one from England....and the eventual champs, again, Bayern Munich.
