MLS will be in the new Dome which makes it more vital for us to move to the Ted IMHO

MLS team will be in the new Dome. They're going to make it easily convertible to a ~30-40k seat stadium to make it work for an MLS team and not look cavernous and empty.

Also solving the Georgia State issue. I'd assume we would look at using the converted Dome for the same reason an MLS team will.

There is the matter of scheduling.

Proper contracts solve that issue. Especially if we can get this thing going and put butts in seats.

I've never paid attention to MLS before, but you're right. It looks like games are primarily on Saturday and run through the end of October. Add in the rapidly expanding Chick-fil-a kickoff weekend at the beginning of the season and the Dome schedule is getting awfully full.

Time to pull the trigger on Turner Field.

RE: GSU eyes campus expansion with Turner Field
I think Georgia State buying Turner Field is the best for everyone involved. Outside of Braves games that property is just a bunch of empty parking lots not producing much economic value. If Georgia State bought it and converted it into a football stadium, dorms, classrooms, shops, parks etc. all of a sudden it becomes a vibrant and attractive area. It's an easy walk to Georgia St's current campus and MARTA. Playing in the new Falcons Stadium would be great and awesome for big games. But Turner Field is Georgia St's chance to have a stadium of their own.

Exactly. Looks like an overlap of 9 weeks with CFB. Gotta figure MLS will need at least 3 Saturday home games plus Chik Fil A.

We already shuttle people to games at the Dome without any problems... I imagine shuttling folks to games at the TED would be no different, especially since we just got new shuttles.

Have they figured out what they are doing with the dome? I'd imagine something would need to happen soon timeline wise if you'd want to have the Ted converted into a football stadium in the next few years.

If you don't buy the Ted, and the new MLS team has a saturday game, what is your backup plan? Thursday night game? Move back to the dome for a few Saturday's a year?

Dome will be imploded. Blank wants zero competition.

Now I have no idea about how friendly the walking path is at gast - sure not to be a pleasant as the walk at Southern - but it appears to be a perfect location for them. Especially since many students surely live somewhere in between (like at Southern) and if they would plan to build more housing out that direction.

I wish you well GAST - looks like it would be a good move if you can afford the property.

According to Google Maps, the walk from the heart of campus is 1 mile. http://goo.gl/Yw2f9R You walk past the sports arena, make a right at the University Waffle House, under the MARTA Station, past the capital, and you are there.

University Commons, which I believe is the furthest dorm from the Ted, is a 1.8 mile walk.

You can't be a true SBC member unless directions to your campus involve passing a Waffle House.

We either have 2 or 3 on campus. They are headquartered in Norcross

There's an "Awful House" less than a block from South's campus.

Smart man.

Sounds like yall need to get moving. I'd imagine a purchase like that has a LOT of hoops to jump though.

The Boro had two when I was in school. One on either side of campus, but neither very close to anything. We had a few locally owned late night places that were more popular due to their proximity.

That's assuming no playoff appearances. MLS Cup this year was December 7.

First round is a single game at the higher seed. Second round is two games home and home (most goals combined wins), third round is single game at the higher seed. Championship single game at the higher seed.

I've always said a Waffle House right there on the corner of Chandler and Georgia Avenue would be a killer investment. The owner of that lot turned it into a parking lot which he is making next to nothing on because we don't need additional parking there (now at least). The traffic to and from the bars on the weekends and hungry freshman living in front and behind it at 4am when the dining halls are closed, I could see it making a LOT of money.

You couldn't pay me enough to every work there, or manage it. lol

I have a buddy making $70k a year in management at Waffle House; that's a lot of hashbrowns.

RE: GSU eyes campus expansion with Turner Field
I look at it this way. When the feasibility study was done 7 years ago (wow) there were three options presented. Play in an existing stadium such as Panthersville, build or expand an existing stadium or play in the Dome. The was the most cost effective of three. You go with the best option you have available. Now an option is being presented that you did not have before. Given that they are imploding our current home and that we will be third banana in the new Dome I think you have to seriously say why NOT the Ted? There are also a significant amount of students and alumni in the immediate area so that you have a chance to create something akin to the Home Park neighborhood at GT. Also given Becker's past behavior, if you read the tea leaves, there is no way he comes out publicly saying anything about the property unless he is holding some cards and has a serious interest in pursuing part of the property. Zero chance.

Does Georgia permit state universities to use imminent domain? That would be a real chiller on doing anything else with the property because of they want to sell it to a private developer and GaSt turns around and condemns it, I would think it would very hard for the developer to prove the value is higher than what they purchased the property for.
