Just Curious...
Hey guys, I was curious about the Sunbelt's basketball revenue from the conference... This discussion was brought about crap usa as well on our board. We have had a steady decline. Just curious now that basketball season is over. Thanks~

Basketball revenue was whatever the value of our 1 NCAA unit was for the year. No additional revenue comes through TV.

We finished 19th in RPI this year...frankly, we didn't deserve any money off basketball.

Hey Southern Miss,

Everything is better over here.
You guys should jump off the sinking CUSA ship.
Maybe that unofficial invite was to a CUSA team?

You recent football struggles aside, you are one of the few things left that is desirable about CUSA. Imagine how this conference would be with you guys on board?

We each get 5Million extra a year for Basketball.
LU is going to pay for it.. 03-lmfao

RE: Just Curious...
I thought the NCAA tourny money was dispersed on a multi-year average of units. Either way the SBC gets near the minimum.

Found this on Forbes. http://www.forbes.com/sites/chrissmith/2...6-million/

The NCAA’s basketball fund will distribute an estimated $194 million to the D1 conferences this year. That money is allocated according to each conference’s recent NCAA Tournament performances. The distribution is based on a six-year rolling period, and this year’s April payout will encompass the ongoing tournament as well as the previous five.

Conferences get a tournament unit for every non-championship game played by a conference member in those six tourneys. A tournament unit is projected to be worth $250,106 this year, up 1.9% from last year’s $245,500 unit value. So if teams from the Atlantic 10 played a combined 35 tournament games over those six years, then the conference would receive $8.75 million in April.

Everyone schedules D2. The goal is to limit it to just one.

This kinda relates to another thread, but would it better for most SBC schools to schedule more conference games in basketball and thus make it easier to schedule games against D1 opponents since there wouldn't be as many open dates to fill? Have the one D2 in the beginning if needed, but I'd rather play more conference games than struggle to get teams to play us.

That is partially why we are playing 20 league games next season. Its so hard to get home and homes scheduled.

Maybe in the SunBelt but not CUSA, see ODU and Charlotte. Point is he was crapping on the conference when USM is part of the problem. If they switch out all their DII games with average DI opponents, they would of got an at-large bid this year.

The A10 has a rules against scheduling DII teams and it has worked out pretty well for them.

Hoping for that great airport meeting one day. The schools in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama and Missouri State in one league. Schools from Georgia, N. Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and Florida in another.

Crawl back in your hole, SBC wannabee. UNCC will never be relevant in the soon-to-be-defunct-coosa.

We were in the SunBelt once and turned down an invite this time around but sounds like I hit a nerve. You guys scheduled 3 DII teams this year, so instead of being 11-20 and you were 8-20.

You are really bad at trash talking.

Thanks for the info. I think ours was around $4.4 million in 2013 but this year it is at around $2.7 million. I personally wish USM went independent but that will not happen. Cheers~

Indy doesn't work in the new economy of CFB.

If you want to explore a new league I've got the numbers of some schools in Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas who might be willing to talk.

Joe...I think you are holding some of the teams to a higher standard in CUSA than I am. I think UNCC will be very relevant...because its not a very good league.

Yet they earned the same number of units as the Sun Belt.

If MTSU had hung around might have had a crack at 2 from the Belt again this.

Basketball got the same number of NCAA units that we did this year. Comparing 1 bid leagues is a completely pointless venture until some of their teams start winning NCAA tourney games.

I don't think the Atlantic Sun was better than us this year, but they got more NCAA units.
