Chris Hawkins is a strong dude
John Martin ‏@JohnMartinCA
Memphis signee Chris Hawkins maxes out at 340 on the bench press, according to his coach. Did 18 reps of 225 yesterday.

John Martin ‏@JohnMartinCA
Hawkins goes 6-5, 245. His teammates liken him to a linebacker.

That's good to hear, hopefully he becomes the enforcer we need.

RE: Chris Hawkins is a strong dude
Hawkins works hard on D, likes to mix it up going for rebounds and brings a lot of energy. If he can produce just 1/3 on the D1 level of what he's producing in JC then its a good pickup

If ya can't bench 450 it doesn't mean squat around here.

He looks great and seems to have a good attitude. He does appear a little slow, which will be a problem at a Top 30 D1 program. I'm glad to have him and am looking forward to seeing him play.

He and Dom will be forces to be reckoned with. Shaq could use another 10 - 15 pounds of muscle and would really be a force inside.

During his regression this year, it appeared Shaq needed more than just muscle. He appeared disinterested IMO.

At 6-5, I assume he's going to play the 3. That's a big dude with that height...hope he's quick as well

If he is wide, strong, and physical he can be effective at the 4 spot.

He can drive the lane effectively but can work down low as well. He'll play the 3 and a little 4 in spots

You just booked it Dan-o. That's the way he appeared to me some of the time later in the season. He started out great blocking everything coming into the paint. His foul trouble made him TOO tentative. Often he would just back up and let the guy just drive in for a lay up rather than trying to block the shot or take a charge.

Anyone who has watched him play see any shades of Omar? That was a BAD MAN down low at 6-4!!

I seriously doubt Hawkins will play much at the 3, more like spot duty at the 4, or even 5, depending on matchups. In case anyone forgot, Dorsey was only 6'6 1/4". And I don't think Hawkins is quick or fast.

RE: Chris Hawkins is a strong dude
Considering the overload at wing, and the need for a strong body in the front court rotation, it is my GUESS that he will play as much, if not more, at the 4 rather than the 3.

I agree. If Josh didn't play Spoon or King at the 3, no way does Hawkins play it.
