Oh thank Jesus. My guess is Mo State is next in line?

+1
Mo St would be my second choice. Me thinks JMU sees the writing on the wall with the MAC and is done bluffing....ala App last year. Remember when we were dead set on CUSA? Reality check....give me JMU or Mo St and I will sing in the streets.

At this point I want Mo State over JMU. JMU feels like they would jump to MAC or CUSA the first chance they get. Either would be great though. It's time for JMU to **** or get off the pot.

Our administration set us up for that, with all those C-USA innuendos/comparisons. In a way I kind of understand that though, shooting high doesn't hurt. We'd have fit nicely there except for being located in small town of Boone. I'm sure this is a similar situation to many schools in the Sun Belt. Now I'm glad we're in the Belt. I think we can do better things here especially considering the new rules for payouts to G5's. Besides when we compete against C-USA opponents having a chip on our shoulder won't hurt. I believe the pecking order is still 1) add an eastern travel partner for App. and 2) add MO State.

Golden rule of the Sun Belt Board.

If BirdofParadise or Arkstfan says something. Its something you listen too.

Seriously, do they have a good track record of being in the know
or was that sarcasm

They have important jobs. Arkstfan runs ASU's scout site and makes regular contact with our athletic department. Cajun fans can vouch for Bird

I always listen to arkstfan.

On the other hand, BirdofParadise was hardcore anti-GS/App last year and said we'd never get in because we were "too hard to get to".

Well the roller coaster continues. You can substitute some other school for Liberty if you like. The point was really about scheduling with 12 teams in the Sun Belt.

RE: Scheduling with Liberty in Sun Belt
We can go in circles, and we will on here, and more than once at that, but Benson's on record as saying adding a travel partner for App St was a priority as was getting to twelve for football to schedule a championship. Logic tells you that has to be either JMU or Liberty. No one else in our neck of the woods is going to be ready for at least a few years yet unless you slapped UMass in there. It's JMU, Liberty or continue waiting. I understand there is likely no financial advantage to expanding past twelve for football, but does anyone know if Benson's made any commits regarding this? I know he has to get the votes, but would he entertain going past twelve for football?

I agree if it is a FCS move-up it has to be Liberty or JMU if the add is THIS YEAR. Of course it could be some FBS team I guess-- UAB, Southern Miss ????

Not a chance in hades. Southern Miss is angry enough about having to compete against MTSU, UNT, WKU, FAU, and FIU regularly.

If we get UAB or USM then I'm the Queen of England.

The Belt is still considered bottom rung so no to UAB or So Miss, but we're out to change all that especially with the new G5 setup and some extended length of stability we can. We've got to get better tv deals to do this.

RE: Scheduling with Liberty in Sun Belt
If BOP or I have an opinion, it's just that, an opinion.

When we say "this is what's happening" it's because we know something.

As to scheduling, assuming we have a 12th member and it is an eastern school, the logical pattern in football is:

West plays all west and plays one of each pair USA/Troy, GaSt/GaSo, App/East School for two years then rotates. That way you go to Alabama every other year and always have an Alabama school on schedule. Go to Georgia every other year and always have a Georgia school on schedule. Go to NC/Other State every other year and always have one on schedule.

East plays all east and plays one of each east pair each year: UL/ULM, AState/TXSt, NMSU/Idaho. East does a far West trip every other year that way.

Hoops. No divisions, but think of the divisions as schedule pods divided east/west. Permanently play everyone in your schedule pod home/home (10 games). Play two schools from the other pod home/home (4 games). Play a single game against the remaining four schools (4 games). That gives you an 18 game schedule. Rotate the cross-pod games each year. Over the course of three years you will play schools in your pod 3 times at home, 3 times on the road, and the six teams in the other pod 2 times at home, 2 times on the road.

No need to have all 12 teams at the tournament, the 8 team format only eliminates four teams. Looking at leagues with 18 game slates the worst case would be the unlikely outcome of a school going 9-9 and missing the tournament, generally the cut line will be at 8-10 or 7-11. The Pac-12 would have been the worst case this year with that format with the eliminated teams being 2-16 USC, 3-15 Wash St, 8-10 Oregon State and the final tournament slot going to tie-breaker between 9-9 Utah and Washington (they split their series but Utah split with #2 UCLA while Washington lost their sole meeting with UCLA in Seattle).

I think an issue is that having a division where 1 team has been a full FBS member prior to 2013 is going to be a problem.

Actually, it guarantees that one or two will have success. Mix the move-ups with the established teams and they might have trouble finding momentum to improve their program. Put them all together and some have to rise to the top.

That's a good thing, and it most likely cant be avoided. Its much better for the newbies to play each other because it makes their result look better. The NCAA doesn't sit there and judge whether or not they are playing move ups or not when judging the top G5 league.

Arkstfan, in your post about scheduling you only have football teams playing 7 conference games--- 5 division games and only 2 cross over games. I have to believe the Belt will play an 8 game conference schedule.
