You forgot about the willing part. Liberty is the only school willing to make the move now. JMU has decided it is MAC or bust. MSU is a couple years from willing to make the move. EKU is the same as MSU. Then we have Lamar who may be willing but nobody wants them.

Liberty is the only school who is willing and ready now. That is why they will be the 12th member. The Belt wants a CCG next year and that require a team be announce this year.

That is dumb. To take the first available just to have an extra year or two of a championship game of questionable value.

Then tell me who else we should be waiting for! A MSU who may not want to move there oly sports to the Belt, JMU who has shown they do not want to join the Belt, or EKU who dreams of FBS but may never actually make the move. That leave Lamar and Liberty. Between those two who do you choose? If you chose Liberty over Lamar the go ahead and add them now.

Religion and politics aside, Liberty athletics is just as good as the other teams on this list. This is a sports forum. If you want to argue religion and politics then find a forum other than sports to argue your point.

Did you see religion or politics being argued by me? No, you just threw those in there.

If there is no public institution ready or willing, then don't add anyone. End of story.

I believe Arkstfan said that football only memberships last around 4 years average.

I expect the play will be to find an Eastern All Sports Member, and then wait a couple years and check on Missouri State. If at that point the Bears are willing to join, then Idaho or NMSU will be removed.

If the SBC cannot get the votes for an Eastern member this year, then we likely go after EKU in a couple years.

I'm not a Liberty fan because I didn't attend there, but I don't hate them either as some seem to absolutely love doing. Once one gets past all the b.s. and gets down to brass tacks this is a sports affiliated conference and Liberty and JMU are the two best viable options.

Think it averages out to like 3 years 10 months.

Most JMU fans have no interest in the SBC. We don't need another school with fans constantly pimping to get out.

Liberty is a private school with agendas very different from the rest of the SBC schools.

Wait until a public university is ready and willing.

We are not in a situation where we have to scramble for members.

Everything you said seems the most logical strategy. Missouri State and Eastern Kentucky could make great members in a few years if they continue down the proper path and would make great replacements for Idaho and New Mexico State. We'd have a super tight conference footprint with those changes plus JMU or Liberty.

This is a link to a comparison of LU against SBC schools. It covers almost all metrics not just sports.

So the poll on our board that was 75% in favor of joining the SBC isn't representative of JMU fans? ok

Just a reminder...Liberty will have to drastically reorganize their television network should they want to join any FBS League.

EKU, Liberty, JMU, Lamar, and MSU All want to go FBS. The Sun Belt has a big decision to make and one of these teams could be lucky enough to be the last FCS to FBS move for some time.

I could see Idaho eventually leaving the Belt and creating another spot but that could be several years from now. It seems 12 is the magic number now that the CFP has started. I don't see CUSA adding any teams even if they lose two. I think the MAC is ok staying at 12. The MWC seems ok at 12. I just don't see any major realignment opening any spots for any more FCS teams.

One for sure spot left and seveal teams wanting in. Who is ready and willing to make that move today. We all know the answer but most aren't willing to accept it. Liberty will get that last FCS to FBS spot.

The Sun Belt holds the golden ticket for sure. What's the deal with Idaho anyways? Has the Sun Belt promised them anything? Why are they even here?

Idaho is here because they were a previous Sun Belt member and would have given the Belt 12 teams. WKU decided to go to CUSA leaving us with 11 teams. I don't think Idaho will last very long at the FBS level. The Sun Belt won't kick them out. We will have to wait for them to leave on there own.
Is being a former member really the reason for Idaho. Lamar is a former SBC member.

How about being a former member who was already FBS! Is that better? I would hate for Lamar to get there feelings hurt!
No feeling hurts. Lamar did it to themselves by stupidly dropping football and leaving the SBC. The new people at Lamar understands and won't be making those mistakes again. We just need a chance.
