No because it is the live music capital of the world, has a legendary party scene, and has awesome places to eat that can cook more than one type of food. Don't get me wrong I spent a week in Lafayette had a lot of fun and got my cajun food fix, especially at johnson's something forgot the name, but it doesn't hold a candle to Austin.

If you think Lafayette only has one great type of food you should have asked some who lives here. That's like saying Austin only has good Barbecue.

I just thought I'd share something I thought was pretty cool. Did not know it would bring on the whine fest.

Seriously, I am truly sorry that Monroe didnt make the list.

-----So Southern Living has the best food in America category and guess who is #1---yea #1 like we are in college baseball-----the UNIVERSITY of LOUISIANA's home City---Lafayette, Louisiana!!!! Yea let's talk food!!!!
Lafayette has good foods, southern cajun, but you are second to Beaumont where the Louisiana flavor meets the Texas flavor. Who would have guess the zydeco festival was in Beaumont TEXAS.

I have been living in Austin for the past 4.5 years. It is a lot of things, but I would not consider it a college town. If you lived in west campus (between MLK and 38th, Lamar and Guadalupe) then maybe you would consider it a college town, but the city as a whole definitely is not.

I would however consider San Marcos to be the epitome of a college town. 50,000 residents and 35,000 students...a bar on every corner...huge college student apartment complexes spread across town...

Oh and to the poster who said that most people outside of Texas consider San Marcos a suburb of San Antonio, that is incorrect. San Marcos is twice as close to Austin as it is San Antonio. I wouldn't consider San Marcos a suburb of Austin either...although you do[/align] have to go through two suburbs (Buda & Kyle) to get to San Marcos.

I'm surprised Oxford, Mississippi didn't make the list. This is where Ole Miss is located. I went to Grad school there and it's definitely a college town and area.

The town has a population of 20, 000 but 10,000 of that comes from the University, students and employees. When you get 65, 000 people at a football game from a town of only 20,000, people are coming out the sticks for the game.

Tailgating at the Grove is awesome. I actually owned a wine and liquor store while attending Grad school and gamedays made our year. I taught Physics there while in Grad school and the students were fun. They must have made a killing on merchandise because everyone would where their Ole Miss shirts to class

Everybody would party in the Oxford square where they had restaurants and good nightlife, clubs or stay in the Grove. The students would where Sportcoats with a tie and of coarse the girls were dolled up for the games.

It was funny to watch them come in the store after the games all wasted. It gets my vote.
