Its a non-Sun Belt poster who made that prediction.

That being said, we get a bit of the nasty on the schedule. We play at App in their FBS home opener (they play Ga Southern on the road 5 days before we go to Boone). Its a classic trap game but we should still win the game.

Tom, it's not a slight against USA, to me it's more of the type of offense GS runs will be hard to prepare against. Look what they did to Florida last year. I would think you would agree Florida was better than USA a year ago?

Yes, but they lost to 4 FCS teams, who apparently figured it out. And we get them at home. Georgia Southern went in and gave 110 percent in that game and UF came in lazy. Its different when you play 12 FBS games.

Yes, but those 4 losses are conference mates that have seen their offense over and over again for years. This is why I think GS has an advantage over App and Georgia St. That is why I think they could get their first W the fastest, just so happens to be against USA.

GS will be debuting a new offense and that may cost them their edge.

Would be surprised if it doesn't take a couple of games for GaSo to
get their game going. Unfortunately that next week we play them.
Gonna' be an epic Black and Blue Game.

I forgot they have a new coach. That could be a double edged sword. New coach is a winner.

They'll be well into the season before we see them.

In all fairness the liberty guy has it right. Those teams see our offense every year and more than that they either run our offense or play 2 other teams during the season that run it as well.

Our offense will be a bit different next season, but you'll be getting a lot of the same motions, pitches, and fakes that you saw against Navy last season just out of a different formation. That didn't end well for you guys. (L 42 -14) I'm not saying we will be that efficient with our offense that early in the season, but if your defensive coordinator doesn't come up with a better game-plan it could be a long day.

FWIW our defense is our achilles heel this season too (IMO), so it has potential to be a high scoring game.

EDIT: That was NOT me saying we were guarantee'd to put up 40 points on you, we are not Navy, but we should be similar in our execution even in our new offense.

And some of the losses last year were due to defensive miscues. In the Samford game, they had over 300 yards and 4 TD's on just 5 plays. The Wofford loss we managed to absolutely mismanage our offense along with defensive miscues and still it was fairly close. Furman we should not have lost to...that was a coaching failure.

Much of the same happened against App, we had defensive failures and after McKinnon was injured our offensive staff looked completely lost. We didn't even attempt any of the same things that we carved through their defense on the first drive with later in the game, it was quite depressing. App was nowhere near as good as they looked against us last year, but give them credit they attacked where we were weak and took advantage.

I'm not really concerned about the offense. We've switched before and still had the ability to score points, we just came up short on defense. If we can shore up our defficencies on defense I think we'll be ok. We should be competitive in every game.

Coach Fritz's contract will automatically renew if 2 conditions are met, APR over 940 for the team and 7 wins. If he doesn't meet both of those each year his clock starts ticking, so he has incentive to win.

All that to say I think Sav St gets the 12th spot and get a special expedited invitation and they are our first FBS win. :)

Actually I think we'll upset NCST.

RE: First FBS win
Yes we lost to 4 fcs teams last year. App, Wofford, & Furman (our three biggest rivals in the socon) and Samford who aired it out against our terrible secondary.

I think two of the loses (furman and wofford) were due to friction within our coaching staff. There were different opinions on some changes that were trying to be implemented. When they didn't work out so well, we started to see issues with play calling, player substitutions, and also a ton of injuries that we've chalked up to full contact in practice all year long.

With the new staff I think our game plan will be a lot smoother, but it all comes down to execution. How well will we know the new play book? How well will the players pickup the new formations and style of play? How well will the current roster fit into the new system? All unknowns at this point.

That said - NCST is not what they were a few years ago. I think they are the weakest FBS OOC game on our schedule and will be our first FBS win of the season.

I think Troy has the bigger adjustment to make this year truthfully. USA's schedule is not as favorable as a few others, which is why I think some believe they may fall a bit.

Actually, not as big as you may think. A 6'7" Jr QB (only one w/ FB$ experience) that's been red-shirted, A 6'2" RS Frosh that's been gray-shirted, a la CRob...the QB from the NJCAA Championship team...and the QB from the 2nd place juco team. All the RBs are back...03-2thumbsup

Do you think any of those guys could ever equal Corey Robinson, who single handedly kept you in some games the last few years?

chiefsfan ... have you been under a rock the last 8 years? We haven't had less than top of the line QB play since 2005. We have never had a problem reloading at QB. Levi Brown (the guy before Corey) was better than Corey. Corey set records because he stayed longer. There was also Omar Haugabook and Jamie Hampton who lost very few SBC games.

Corey was not liked by a lot of Trojans because of his inability to escape sacks. Many feel that was a key competent in many close losses.

These four QBs are the best talent we've had at QB, ever, by a long shot. We bring back all of our RBs including Chunn who had 14 TDs as a freshman last year. We bring back 8 out of 10 on the O-Line including 4 of the 5 starters and added an Ole Miss Transfer who snagged a starting spot in the spring. We bring back most of our WRs and added a tremendous JUCO talent at #3 WR in Jarvis Bentley (6'5"). Top notch in spring. We bring back our OC. When you have all of those components it makes QB transitions much easier.

Dontreal Pruitt - 1st Team NJCAA All-American. Set the NJCAA record for total offense (610 yards per game). 51 TDs, 7 INTs (6 were running TDs). Won the NJCAA Title Game. Team finished 1st.

Connor Bravard - 67-2 record between High School and Junior College. QB for the #2 JUCO team in the country. His JUCO team was in the title game in 2012. (Georgia Military played in the title game in 2013, lost and fell to #3, allowing Bravard's team to move to #2).

Brandon Silvers - ESPN's #27 rated QB. That's a big deal. Dual Threat. Grayshirted. Then Redshirted. Will have 4 to play.

Dallas Tidwell - 6'7". Has been the back up behind Corey for two years. Has played very well in mop up duty. Threw a 40+ plus TD against Ole Miss late in the game (against 3rd and scout teams, but nonetheless).

Now if you want to say defense. Go ahead. I wont blame you. I have no idea what to expect. It's been five years since we've been good on defense.
