Its a non-Sun Belt poster who made that prediction.

That being said, we get a bit of the nasty on the schedule. We play at App in their FBS home opener (they play Ga Southern on the road 5 days before we go to Boone). Its a classic trap game but we should still win the game.

Hate to break it to you but App plays GaSo 9 days before playing USA in Boone. (September 25 to October 4th)

Thanks for the heads up. They'll still have depth issues. We aren't just going to walk in an take the game, but we should still have the advantage.

RE: First FBS win
Love preseason optimism.
I think every team in the country is putting up a W on us right now.
That W must stand for George W Bush, because doubt we lose that many games.
Hope not anyway.

I think Troy has the bigger adjustment to make this year truthfully. USA's schedule is not as favorable as a few others, which is why I think some believe they may fall a bit.

We won 6 games last year. I think that if you look at our schedule

@App, GaSo, GaSt, Troy, @ULL, @Ark State, @Idaho, Tex State should provide us with 6 games where we would be either favored or even money. Is it impossible that we don't stumble, no. 6 wins assumes we hold serve at home and win at App and Idaho. Not seeing much crazy with that prediction. Then we have our OOC schedule (@Kent, Navy, Miss State, @So Carolina). We should beat Kent and should have a decent shot with Navy.

So, I'm thinking 7 to 8 wins and 5 to 6 conference wins plus a bowl would be the most likely outcome. A good season would be 6-2 in conference and 8-4 overall. And while I don't think we'll be favored in Lafayette or Jonesboro or against Mississippi State at home, none of those games would be 'end the world' upsets.

That assumes 3 road wins. But I think we can pull that one off. And beat Troy.

A 6-2 conference record would guarantee a 3rd place finish, which is where the most optimistic punters are predicting. A 5-3 record would probably get us there too.

Our schedule does us no favors. But it is manageable.

Yeah, no way you guys are favored against ULL or ASU unless things change significantly before the game is played.

Getting Texas State and Troy at home is a big help for the Jags, but ultimately its going to come down to whether or not they can win in the two hardest places in the SBC to win.

I don't think ANYONE is predicting USA to win the conference next year. I'm assuming we lose both those games.

Tom, it's not a slight against USA, to me it's more of the type of offense GS runs will be hard to prepare against. Look what they did to Florida last year. I would think you would agree Florida was better than USA a year ago?

Yes, but they lost to 4 FCS teams, who apparently figured it out. And we get them at home. Georgia Southern went in and gave 110 percent in that game and UF came in lazy. Its different when you play 12 FBS games.

Yes, but those 4 losses are conference mates that have seen their offense over and over again for years. This is why I think GS has an advantage over App and Georgia St. That is why I think they could get their first W the fastest, just so happens to be against USA.

Actually, not as big as you may think. A 6'7" Jr QB (only one w/ FB$ experience) that's been red-shirted, A 6'2" RS Frosh that's been gray-shirted, a la CRob...the QB from the NJCAA Championship team...and the QB from the 2nd place juco team. All the RBs are back...03-2thumbsup

Do you think any of those guys could ever equal Corey Robinson, who single handedly kept you in some games the last few years?

Kind of a difficult question for me because I would've liked to have seen Deon a little more because of his care for the football. But, Corey had to play on teams that had poor secondary play. Although CRob had put up numbers that only 4 other players in the game did, I'd like to see Tidwell get the nod. But Silvers and Pruitt are coming out of the spring battling for the #1 spot. Pruitt is about 5'10/11" but can spin it. TROY will be fine at QB.

According to GS fans they are passing a lot more this spring than they ever have. Doesn't mean you aren't right considering its about 52 run 7 pass haha

Any team that goes into the Swamp and comes out with a win without completing a SINGLE pass in the ENTIRE game is going to have its run game seriously studied.
