I expect a hard fought game from you guys. I expect that the problem you will face will come in the third and fourth quarters, when you will have depth problems.

Especially after playing a rivalry game on the road 5 days before the USA game.

App isn't scared of us. App is just not going to have the same size, speed, and depth.
Depth for sure. Size probably true. Speed - doubt you have more speed, but may be wrong.

Man, y'all have an easy schedule. NMSU, Idaho, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, and App. That's five games where you should be big favorites.

To get to six you'll have to win one of @USA, ULL, @ULM. Possible, especially if ULM or USA have QB change over issues.

No Arkansas State. No Texas State

OOC - @UAB (not a gimmie and they'll have something to prove - but you guys should be at least even money there), some FCS moveup (win), Duke at home (a reach but you could win), and then a game you'll probably lose (@Georgia).

Yea, barring some collapse, you guys should be bowling next year. You guys have 7 games where you'll be favored or even money, and then you have 4 plausible upsets in case you get upset somewhere in the 7 games where you'll be favored.

Not much of a season for exciting games, but that's a bowl inducing schedule if I've ever seen one. If you guys don't get to a bowl, then that's a sign of big problems.

Id say Georgia Southern and Troy have two of the easiest schedules in the league by far. GSU misses both ASU and ULL, while Troy misses ASU and hosts ULL.

If I was honest, I think App State has the hardest schedule.

I agree. That's why I picked them last.
Thanks for picking us last. Will be good bulletin board material for the game.
And yes, we probably do have the hardest schedule. Life's not easy, but there are no problems, just opportunities. If we get kicked in the teeth some this year, just means we will work harder to get even better.

No hate. Just given your schedule, your record last year, and your depth, that's where I think it will land. I remember those days prior to our 2012 FBS debut. Ahh memories. Dreams of shocking the world. And then.....reality sank in. We were better than our 6-6 record last year. We were WORSE than our 2-11 record in 2012. We nearly went winless.

RE: My predicted order of finish for 2014-- FB
Our coaching staff admitted at the beginning of the football year last year that they debated hard all summer how hard
to red shirt. They finally went all in. Looking back may have been a mistake, but they held to it. Only took one
red shirt off when they finally had no one else to play the position. Was kind of like playing with half
a team.
I may be too optimistic, but have some faith. I can see the light.

That might be a point in your favor at least on the depth issue. But that still isn't going to season those redshirts either.

I hear the odds are 50/50.

It will be interesting to see what the attendance is like. I'll be watching via appstate.com.

Bottom line is this:

Any list that doesn't have the juggernaut known as Texas State as 1 (and probably 2 & 3 as teams will be scared to be that close to perfection, they'll settle for 4th instead of being compared) is just plain silly.

Georgia Southerm fans, I think you're in for a rude awakening dealing with a coaching transition, offense transition, and losing some of your star players (mainly McKinnon). With that said you are right we play a tougher conference schedule. I still expect us to make some improvement this year and I think we can take you guys based off of what you have left from last year vs. what we have. However with that being said I don't see us winning because we've won too many consecutive games in the rivalry and this is at southern. You guys are due for a win. I think we have the better team right now but I think you're team is and should be fed up and will put out for that game.

I don't think the offensive transition will be as tough as some think. We are still running an option offense, just out of a different formation. Yes we will pass more, but not a ton more. Losing McKinnon does suck, but we have plenty of guys with his speed and agility, and Ellison is a beast of an athlete, and he is getting a run for his money at QB.

I fully believe our offense will put up good numbers. But it is our defense that worries me.

Have no doubt you guys will have a good team. Just think you are going to get beat up too much from playing three BCS teams. Do not think you have ever done that and those guys will scrap like heck if you guys are close to beating them. Which I wouldn't doubt you bring away two victories there out of the three.
Your defense is a question mark, but didn't you pick up a new DC?

We're only playing 2 BCS teams. One of them is coming off a 3-9 season that lost a lot of starters on a crap team. Debbie Yow might be close to destroying that program anyway, so I'm pretty confident we have a good shot in that game. GT will be a war, and I think PJ will be out to make a point and probably call the best game he ever has since he's been there...but at least we'll have an idea of how to defend it so maybe we can make something happen. Same with Navy.

To me probably our ceiling is 5th and our floor is 10th.

I think you would have done well with Monken, but may actually do better long term with Fritz or Fritzie as some have called him.
The Sun Belt conference has better coaches. App State figured out how to handle Monken's attack. No doubt most of the Sun Belt would have also. Not to say all would have the personnel to handle it.

You really figured out how to stop it when you lost in 2010, won by 1 score in 2011, and were lucky we didn't have kickers when you won by 3 in 2012 (we missed 3 FG's ugh).

The mess we put on the field in Boone last year is part of the reason I'm glad the previous offensive staff is gone. They were starting to make me lose faith in their ability to call a game. Even in the Florida game there were bad calls on offense, and our last TD was a bad play that worked because a defender happened to panic on our alignment right before the ball was snapped.

If you use GS and GSU we are just guessing at what any poster means.

I think because our athletic department has begun to brand us as GS, and even our university marketing has caught on and will often use GS instead of GSU. @GSAthletics @GSAthleticsFB @GSAthleticsBB, etc. I have no qualms with Gaso or Gast, even though they both sound like bowel movements.
Branding is one thing, clarity on what posters are talking about is another. GS I may know you mean GaSo, but majority of posters would not. GaSo tells it all though. Gets confusing really.
Could just call yourselves what we call you, but you are not going to do that. We wouldn't want to call ourselves what you guys call us either.

You can call us Georgia Southern.

Bulletin board material doesn't come from a message board, stop kidding yourself. It comes when coaches or players are dumb enough to say something inflammatory about their opponent.

I'm sure you remember our dumb*** S&C coach during 2009 and what he said right before the season. You guys only played his comments on your video board during pregame about 20 times.

Ok, you were better on the field in 2013. You were probably better on the field in 2011, I know it was a hard fought game but I don't think I can justifiably say that we were better.

2010 we were better. 2012 we were better, we just couldn't kick...we should not have lost, and it was definitely due to our own miscues that we lost.

There, you got your credit.

You do realize special teams is pretty large part of the game.

In 2010 your offense and defense were better than App's (let's say 60/40), but your special teams were WAY worse, more like 10/90. End result better overall team wins.

The last nine years GaSo has beat App State twice.
7 and 2 in our favor the last nine years. Yeah, I would say we were able to stop GaSo for awhile now.

We don't have much room to talk. We weren't very good until the end of the season, just got lucky playing elon and western carolina last, and then coming in hyped for the florida game.

Let's be honest we both sucked last season! All in all it was more the reality of nothing to play for than lack of talent. On top of all that, we were breaking in a new coach. Both teams were better than they showed, but as the old saying goes, put up or shut up. A good old slice of humble pie is always good every now and again...
