RE: Best Case
Uh, really putting USA in a division with Troy, Ga State, Ga Southern, Liberty, and App is somehow a best case?

For USA's bowl bid eligibility, sure.
For USA's fans. No.

They'd all be eastern teams! USA proved to be really tough last year and Georgia Southern beat Florida. APP and Georgia Southern will get to the level they need to be very quickly. They also will play two cross-over games with the west.

The options are Liberty...JMU...which needs to get the ball rolling or EKU which needs a couple of years at best. So among those three...Liberty is doing the right things to be prepared.

JMU is obviously the best-prepared candidate and it's not even close. Just because they are taking a little time coming to grips with their options and Liberty is desperately shouting from the rooftops their desire to move up doesn't mean the Flames are the better option.

1. Add Missouri State and get this coveted school...Football can wait until 2015.

2. Add New Mexico State's oly sports

3. Add Liberty...as they may now have the votes.

4. Add Massachusetts as football only.

Football

East

Appalachian State
Georgia Southern
Georgia State
Liberty
*Massachusetts
South Alabama
Troy

West

Arkansas State
*Idaho
Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Monroe
Missouri State (2015)
New Mexico State
Texas State

Olympic Sports

Appalachian State
Arkansas State
Arkansas Little Rock
Georgia Southern
Georgia State
Liberty
Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Monroe
Missouri State
New Mexico State
South Alabama
Texas Arlington
Texas State
Troy

With this makeup and a little time the Sun Belt will shine!

Keep it simple and add James Madison and you are done. When did Missouri State become a "coveted school"?

James Madison has had ample time to make it's intentions known...time to move on! They can wait for the next ship to arrive. Missouri State has been coveted since the 1990's...longer than Texas State was even a thought.

Ill glady be behind Mizzou State. As long as it keeps the Flamers, far far away.

[Cringing] MO State, MSU, Missouri State, but...please, God...don't call us "Mizzou State." It's hard to explain the hatred we have for the school in Columbia, MO. The best I can describe it would be calling A-State "U of A- Jonesboro."

No disrespect to you at all, asupatch - thanks for throwing us some love!

Every time I see Missouri State, I want to call you guys Missus State.

It really has nothing to do with the school, it's athletics, it's fans, or anything. Just the way my mind reads it when I see it typed.

RE: Best Case
Pulled this from the LU forum.

"In yesterday's all-faculty meeting, President Falwell was asked about realignment and he said he couldn't say much other than:

1) They won't know about one of the possibilities until late May.
2) There are others.
3) He's optimistic.

He did reveal that he's been traveling to several other schools lately meeting with college presidents, and he said they are surprised by the diverse demographics of our student body, the fact that we are a full-fledged, fully accredited university with 389 degree programs, that our academic programs are accredited by the same agencies which accredit their programs, that we have a school of engineering, a school of law, and a school of medicine, and that we're not the same as Pensacola Christian, Bob Jones or Tennessee Temple in scope, variety or academic freedom.

He said "their mouths drop open when they start hearing about everything Liberty has to offer", and "when they start hearing about what our doctrinal positions are". In his words, they proclaim, "if you got accreditation from SACS, and NCATE and ABA, then you must be a pretty open-minded group of people."

He said the first part of the meeting is "convincing them that we're normal" and, by the end of the meeting, he says "we've got them close to where we want them to be." He said the similarities in experiences are incredible, and the shared experiences create a bond with them. He also said they are impressed with the fact we have 14 hotels and and 21 restaurants within a mile and a half of the campus, and an airport nearby, "something almost none of them have." He says they consider the proximity of food, lodging and transportation to the campus "a blessing" for travel purposes.

He introduced a fact book that he said "basically dispels all the myths about Liberty", and that even we would be surprised by some of what's in the book. You can download the book from this link:

http://livemeeting.liberty.edu/notes/Lib...ooklet.pdf

I thought this would be good information for the thread, straight from President Falwell himself."

I looked at the factbook and it appears that ESPN3 has approached Liberty and asked to carry all of LFSN’s programming next year (page 24 in the booklet). It said something about it being able to reach 120 million homes. All that stuff is over my head. Either way it's a good read.

On what page of the report does it describe their employment practices? How about the behavior of their Law School Dean?

It's on the page that doesn't exist. No one but you and a couple other posters care about employment practices, LU's Law School and I think we have moved to Gays and Jews. Its hard for me to keep up. It's safe to say almost no one cares about what you have to say about LU.

Since the SBC is a sports conference and what I posted has some good info I think other posters might enjoy some fresh news. It's that or seeing posts about the same thing over and over again.

Name recognition, athletic accomplishments, academics, newly-expanded FBS quality football stadium, hiring practices and political acceptability, just name the ones that come to mind immediately.
Some are taking JMU's foot-dragging way too personally. This is not a wedding proposal in which the askee asks for time to think it over because they always assumed they would do better. This is a business decision with a lot of people to satisfy.
App State's fans (some) and administration openly sneered at the prospect of joining the SBC when they thought CUSA was about to pop the question. Now they look to be a solid and supportive addition to the conference

I knew absolutely nothing of JMU's athletic accomplishments prior to expansion becoming a topic around here. I think JMU and MSU are the top options but I don't see how a program that spends more on its football program than JMU or MSU and has faired well against JMU and FBS opponents the last 4 or 5 years while drawing crowds that are better than a lot of CUSA and SBC teams is THAT far behind JMU when you are talking strictly athletics.

You don't recall James Madison's defeat of Virginia Tech a few years ago? It was pretty big news all around college football as VT was considered a dark horse for NC that year.

Vaguely. It doesn't resonate like App St. beating Michigan to me.

It was actually more significant, because not only did it destroy VT's chances for the championship, it destroyed Boise State's too. As VT was their signature game.

I remember some writer at the time comparing it to App vs Michigan, only problem I have with that thought is VT isn't Michigan
