Well I was told that Canty is not leaving even though is posted all over the internet; so I don't believe you.

Canty has won his appeal for release. He has been released from his scholarship and will likely apply for a hardship waiver and win. He can go anywhere and is likely to not have to sit out a year. Both he and Brantley won't be here next year. They were the only point guards on the roster. On top of that, it's April 11 and we don't have a coach. It really is approaching worst case scenario.
I don't understand why he would be granted a hardship waiver.

I'm not really sure either but that's what I'm hearing. It's also been tweeted by a few reporters (one of which is Landon so take that for what its worth, but from other places as well). Landon tweeted it is likely to be family oriented. I don't think he'd win that with as much as he's bashed Marshall and the area since he's arrived on campus. Now if he argued that Marshall didn't offer him what they promised, he might win that.

I've always been somewhat confident that at least one of his sons would come here.

He seems like a real nice young guy. He is athletic as all get out, but he needs to work on his actual basketball skills during the year that he has to sit out. His pops was a pretty hard worker, so I am pretty sure that he will be too. I will post it at the beginning of the thread if and when it becomes official. Btw, don't be surprised if he ends up at an ACC school like UVA. They wanted him to go to prep school for a year when he signed with ECU; so this might also be a case of him going to play with his brother at UVA if the transfer is true.

Good to see ODU basketball possibly getting back to the ODU of old. Lots uphill battles for this league but there is alot to be excited about.

It's slightly amazing to see the transformation the roster has undergone in a year. The difference is dramatic. ODU returns everyone of significance but it's likely there will be 3 new starters who didn't play last season.

Southern Miss C/F Ude Ifeanyichukwu has been added to the list of transfers compiled by ESPN's Jeff Goodman. Not a surprise since he averaged about 3 minutes per game and we needed to open up a scholarship spot.

Obi is trying to take a big step up in level of competition

During his appeal, Canty stated he wants to be closer to his family. However he's taking a visit to Auburn.

When you're around Bruce Pearl everything smells funny.

Love the username by the way.

If my geography is correct, Huntington, WV is closer to Harlem than Auburn, AL. Probably heard of the mysterious carrot d*ldo that is plaguing Marshall's campus and decided to bail.

RE: CUSA Basketball Transfers
It is amazing how the NCAA falls for this "I need to be close to my family because my mother/father/brother/great-niece/step-sister/pet hamster is ill" story.
If you want to be close to home don't go to school five states away.
And I really wonder how a student-athlete who is attending classes, practicing every day and on the road to away games two or three days a week has time to help out.
But what makes it worse is how inconsistent the NCAA is in allowing the waivers.

RE: CUSA Basketball Transfers
UAB's Rideau is transferring

Although UAB's fanbase hates to see people transfer out, it really is a win-win for both sides. Rideau can actually see some on the court time in a lower level school. He was a practice player for us that saw pretty much walk on minutes. We have 2 or 3 guys we're still recruiting pretty hard and only 1 scholarship available. Now we have 2.

We're looking at:

Terence Smith- UT-Martin Graduate transfer averaged 14 ppg and 2:1 A:TO ratio as a guard. shot 43% from FG and 44% from 3
Rokas Gustys- Oak Hill Academy in Virginia (originally from Lithuania) 3* on Scout

I'm sure Haase has some backup plans behind these two.

Didn't like Gustys much when I saw him play Northside Christian Academy a couple weeks ago. Looks very raw. Has potential, but I wouldn't expect much from him right away.

Smith sounds like he'd be a great pick up though.

ODU fans are split on Gustys. I'm in the camp that I'd pass. He's big, very active, high motor but he plays below the rim and I don't see the upside. If he developed a three point shot he would be deadly.

As-is, he's not going to give you more than 5 points per game but he will be someone that could help you pound down low. We need 1 more PF/C type player.

I'm with you. Watching that game the other day he was clearly the biggest and strongest but was getting out rebounded by the shorter but much much more athletic players on the court.

How is he "pounding" if he is getting "outpounded" by smaller dudes?

He's probably going to be the biggest project of all of UAB's recruits if he commits, but I do know he's 6'9" and 245 pounds. You can't teach size but you can teach how to play PF. Minimally he'll be a very good practice player for Lee, Mehenti, CJ, & Cokley.

Can he be any worse than Hamga was?
