Liberty or UMASS
Pick one and why

No hijacking the thread we know this forums fans want JMU or MSU. The premise is only these two are willing or ready with waiting not being an option. Probably a lesser of two evils for some but that is the ideal.

UMASS is not an option. Benson and co. knew UMASS would decline a MAC all sports invite many moons ago. The SBC wants an eastern team to help with travel...but not that far east and certainly not that far north.

UMass. two reasons: one it gives the Sunbelt a championship game the second the minutemen join the league. At best it would be 2016 if Liberty were to move starting next year.

Second: This gives time for JMU or Missouri State to decide what to do with their athletic futures.

UMass also would offer something for basketball. Although they have no intention of leaving the A-10 for basketball in the SBC, the SBC could require that they do some home and away non-conference scheduling with SBC basketball teams. The MAC required that from both UMass and Temple in exchange for a football only membership.

Couldn't UMass actually start in 2014 if they paid 500K? Seems like starting I 2014 and adding in a basketball scheduling agreement would make UMass a nice addition.

I don't see anyway with schedules already having been made that UMass could join this year. Best case scenario is UMass for 2015, which is same timeframe for a FCS team if they announced by June 1.

Can't we have a championship game in 2015 if any FCS team declares before July 1, 2014?

UMass. Hands down.

UMass give us an existing name, gives us the championship game that Benson covets, and brings in basketball name (this would assume a similar deal that the MAC did).

They also don't have the baggage of Liberty. They are also a public institution, far more closely aligned in goal of the existing Sun Belt members.

Not a fan of them, but if it's give me Liberty or give me UMass, I'm taking the latter any day.

The exit fee would then be 250 thousand and possibly dropped.

The MAC invited them and is forcing their hand so dropping it would be appropriate.

I would prefer to wait for either JMU, Missouri State, EKU,

But since you specifically asked about Liberty and UMass.

Liberty. Better facilities, the school actually wants to be in the Sun Belt.

Either one or the other even if it is a lesser of to evils decision .
Assuming other candidates say no or are not ready.

A or B with no C, D or E option

At least Liberty wants to build the conference. UMass is looking for a prostitute.

No I mean Sun Belt schedules which have already been out. I can't see adding UMass for this year. It is too late. The earliest for UMass would be 2015

I am sure they want to be FBS, and we provide that platform. How long they want to be in the SBC? Probably not too.

EVERY school is looking for a prostitute. Liberty has as much desire to build the conference as any of the existing schools. If another offer comes along, they will be gone just as quick as everyone else.

(that's not a knock on Liberty either)

RE: Liberty or UMASS
If it's UMass and Liberty are the only 2 choices, UMass gets my vote. Like someone posted above, the Minutemen would only be in for a couple seasons and by then we could get Missouri State and maybe JMU and EKU.
