RE: Mike Aresco on MONEYBEAT
His insightfulness to value more exposure over a small increase in $$$ was invaluable to a conference trying to establish an identity. There are some things that he could have done better, but overall he has kept this ship afloat and head in the right direction…..

Remember, the contract he signed was not only for peanut dollars, it was also with NBCSN, which isn't any more prominent on the cable dial than FS1. Worst of both worlds.

If the topic of the thread is Aresco's interview, and I talk about Aresco's interview in my post(s), how on earth did I "hijack" the thread? You clearly don't know what that term means. 01-wingedeagle

I thought he favored the exposure we would get on ESPN, so the schools voted to go with ESPN. ESPN matched the exposure NBCSN was offering. However, I could be wrong......

Nancy, the problem with your posts are that they are always negative. You make it a habit to post a negative slant on every topic. You are the opposite of a delusional homer.......which is equally annoying to many on this board.

Seriously........if you just won the lotto......what would you say about it?

Would it be....."I just won powerball...... Can't say I'm too excited. I now need to pay the govt half my payout. I also have to get a lawyer to do estate planning. You all are delusional if you think this is an easy "fun" thing. In the short term......it's more headache than what it's worth"

ESPN had the right to match the NBCSN contract Aresco signed if they wanted to, and they did. Of course Aresco had nothing to do with that.

To Aresco's credit, once ESPN matched the NBCSN contract, Aresco chose to accept the deal with ESPN.

Which, BTW, was very unpopular on this forum. I thought it was a good move, but most around here - many of the same ones who now praise Aresco for doing it - denounced ESPN and wanted to stick with NBCSN.

Maybe so, but that's completely different from hijacking a thread, which is what the other guy accused me of.

RE: Mike Aresco on MONEYBEAT
Aresco delivered the best possible television deal with all the uncertainty that was possible. He delivered P-5 coverage with 2-12 times greater per member payouts than the other Go5 conferences media contracts.

Mock radio and the Wall Street Journal digital interviews all you want... but the corporate culture follows those outlets and it'll pay dividends in the long run. Awareness and support of the business community is huge for a conference that needs revenue streams to compete with the big dogs.

Actually, we are finishing off a great year. The narrative surrounding the conference is so fresh, and the exposure has be instrumental in that...

So, I'd say, yes... Aresco's interviews have helped a great deal with the narrative of the AAC.

You're not serious, are you?

To the extent the AAC has had a "positive narrative" the past few months, it's been because of the one thing Aresco doesn't have anything to do with: Our performance on the football field and basketball court. UCF winning the Fiesta Bowl got us some nice attention, and our very good performance in the NCAA tournament has garnered the same.

Has nothing to do with commissioner interviews, as was demonstrated last year.

So what do you want him to do. The guy is running crazy getting us publicity. He had a horrible hand to play in the tv negotiations. He can be like the others and do nothing.

I didn't say there was any harm in his media interviews, I just refuted Homer's claim that they were doing us a lot of good. They are largely irrelevant. The media can see us with their own eyes, one way or the other.

Could Not Disagree More.. Marketing 101 when rebranding is getting the word out. It's more important for the AAC than the Big East for obvious (brand equity) reasons. Relying solely on the usual suspects, (sports media) would be a mistake. It starts with national awareness and educating the general public, hence CNN, Bloomberg, Forbes... I even heard him on NPR for goodness sake! If the AAC wants to be a challenger conference (a stated goal), then mass media marketing would have to considered an important part of the process...that whole perception is reality thingy.

All I know is that Aresco works his tail off for the conference and I appreciate his efforts. In my opinion, he was a great hire and I hate to think where we would all be with a lesser man.

The OP is regarding his appearance on Moneybeat this month. Your response was to talk about what he did, or didn't do, in 2012. Hijack. Look at your first post. Did you even watch the moneybeat interview before you started typing? I can't tell. You certainly made no comment whatsoever about the interview.

No offense, but you could also say turning almost every thread into your personal anti-Aresco rant is a bit of a hijack.

In other news, there was an earthquake in California this weekend. When asked, Quo immediately blamed Aresco.
