Men's Basketball Schedule Next Season
Coach K said in an interview on BCSN Late Night Sports Show tonight that the Rockets will be playing at Michigan, Duke, Cleveland State and possibly VCU or Oregon next season. He said that Arkansas State, Robert Morris and Oakland will be coming to Savage next season. He said no Big Ten School, Dayton, or Xavier will do a home and home with the Rockets. He said the best they can do in this situation is try to schedule the best Mid Major teams that they can play taking in travel considerations.

RE: Men's Basketball Schedule Next Season
looks like those who have been spouting the "anywhere anytime" refrain have gotten their wish. looks like 3 top 25 (possibly top 15) teams on the road, plus a strong cleve st squad and whatever other mid major powers we can get. the 3 home games (oakland, ark st and robert morris) are no gimmies, robert morris has taken down kentucky and st johns in the last 2 nit's

Yesterday Ryan tweeted:

Quote:Already committed to play Michigan and Duke, UT hoops will be in Legends Classic next season and play VCU, Oregon or Villanova.

Prolly everyone is clamoring to play Dayton now I bet.

Xavier thinks they are better than everyone so no biggie there they dont want to come. Of course no BIG team wants to come, only the bottom feeders would do it. Doesnt do any good for a program like Minnesota, Illinois, etc to come to Savage as it could come detrimental come bubble time.

I think UW-Green Bay or UW-Milwaukee could be a good game.

What about some AAC schools- SMU, Cincy etc. Prolly wont get a home and home, but those are some challenging away games.

As I mentioned previously, Coach K said Wright St won't do a home and home. Now that's a slap in the face.

RE: Men's Basketball Schedule Next Season
Looks like it's shaping up to be a more challenging schedule for the Rockets, which is going to be essential in the long run IMO.

I really would like to see a notable program come into Savage Arena next season, our fans deserve it. I'm sure it's fairly difficult to do so, but I really hope they can get it done.

Undefeated at home....teams don't want any part of this team coming back to Savage. Duke, and UM already schedule tough so playing Toledo is not a walk through nor a scary game for them. They could drop to Toledo then beat Uconn and Arizona in the same week to balance it out. UM lost to Charlotte this season, and Duke lost to Mercer in the tourney. I love the scheduling coach K does.

It's the smaller big boys that can't risk losing to mid majors. I call them the Major babies.

Interesting Wright State wont play us. Even for a home and home.

Might have to look at some Conference USA teams- any quality there?

maybe get Depaul? Rutgers? some of the bigger conferences bottom dwellers?

We haven't even played in the NCAA tourney in 30 years. If we want to get one-for-ones with Dayton and Xavier, we need to get at least close to as good as they are.

I'd be okay with coach K scheduling one-and-done with Dayton or X at this point. Sorry about the multiple posts - just kept of thinking of other things to post.

I'd rather just schedule a team like Southern Miss for a one-and-one than schedule Dayton or Xavier for a one-and-done. I'm not against one-and-dones but if the Rockets are going to do that, I think it should only be done with teams like Michigan, Duke, Kansas, Ohio State, Florida, Louisville, etc. I understand that Dayton is in the Elite 8 this year (gotta be the first time ever, right?) and Xavier has a good program but I don't think the Rockets should be giving up a return game to just anybody like those schools, especially Dayton.

Dayton has one final four and championship appearance in 67.
This is their third Elite 8. Seventh sweet 16. And fifteenth NCAA appearance.
Behind UC and OSU they are a very storied program in Ohio. A lull between 90 and 2000.

One and done with Dayton could be alright- and not a far game for fans to travel to as well.

itd be schools like Wright St that we'd expect home and home.

The thing is, Dayton did a home and home with us a couple years ago - I believe during the 4 wins seasons. Now that we're good, they won't come close.

That was set up when Brian Gregory was their coach, or am I mistaken?
