RE: Auburn's Bruce Pearl wants to play games in Birmingham, Atlanta
Pearl will promote the Auburn program. He's shrewd, and he knows what it will take. I don't expect him to play us, but he might.
Then there's this:
"You've got to win and you've got to do some work in November and December," Pearl said. "So, we'll try to stay away from those teams that really hurt your RPI. You can't even have one of them. It's almost better to play a Division II school than it is to play a bad RPI Division I."

Pearl and his coaching staff are working tirelessly to come up with a plan to ensure Auburn doesn't have to scrimmage against itself.

You want to play in my town, you play my school.
Unfortunately I know the local government and population will bow down and bend over to give quarter to a school who hasn't given a turd about them since they left lesion field for the plains.

RE: Auburn's Bruce Pearl wants to play games in Birmingham, Atlanta
I didn't see anything in that article to indicate that UAB is any part of Bruce Pearl's thinking right now -- maybe in a couple of years. Is he thinking AU can schedule a major out of state D1 opponent at the BJCC next season?
I still want to see him sign some players that makes the state go "WOW!!!!" before I am going to jump on his bandwagon. Barbee and Grant have not managed it, but perhaps Pearl can. Late Signing period is next month so we will see.

Well, it's nice to see that your allegiance is so fickle. Would your name change to "BAMANBLAZERNBARNERFAN"?

RE: Auburn's Bruce Pearl wants to play games in Birmingham, Atlanta
The Tigers have played in Birmingham only eight times in the last 24 seasons, and Pearl is interested in potentially playing more games at BJCC Arena -- and possibly a holiday tournament -- there in the near future.
"I love holiday tournaments, I love neutral site games," Pearl said during an appearance on Auburn's weekly Tiger Talk radio show. "One of the things I think we should do every year is we should play a neutral site game in Birmingham. ... Every year we should have a neutral site or a tournament or neutral site games."

NO!! I acknowledge that Pearl won the press conference / pep rally, but I want to see something that indicates he can make a genuine difference in state collegiate basketball. As UAB fans can attest, we have seen a coach win his opening press conference before and then not be able to make a difference in results for his first two years. That's not fickle -- that's waiting for real results to judge by. We have seen the "flash", now we wait for the "sizzle".
Please note that I hope Pearl does make basketball more relevant in the state because that will be good for UAB's program as well.

You and I disagree. WOW!! Imagine that!
I believe making basketball relevant in our state will help all of its collegiate programs in the long run. There is plenty of talent in the southeast for everybody to have a good share. It depends upon the staff to get the best players for their program. That's why they make the big bucks..

+1
I just hope his failure comes at the hands of a Blazer win.

If we assume both Grant and Pearl fail miserably, how will that affect the place of collegiate basketball in the state? I think it might lead to more of our top players going to other states to play their games, and that could hurt UAB. Since our state has never had a nationally respected basketball power in it, it may be argued that it wouldn't make a difference, but how can we know if it never happens?
If a basketball team crashes and no one is around to hear (or care), does it make a difference?

Sorry BBF, but I disagree.
Football is VERY relevent in this state. Actually in the UA-system. But I have yet to
see it help us. And when Auburn becomes relevent in b-ball, I see them giving us the same time of day as uat.

Obviously it's time for the UAB Athletics Department marketing team to step up to the plate, as well as the coaching staff. It's about to get serious around here, and UAB needs to stay in front of it.

What are you talking about? Who cares what Pearl does? Why would anyone want to jump on their bandwagon?

Well this puts a new light on the conversation:
http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/...er_default
" I think it's what the fans enjoy and I'm going to play some mid-majors, but UAB is not a mid-major. UAB is what I consider a high mid-major program in a high mid-major league. ... Their RPI will be important."

Pssst, Pearl.
Your football team is "high-major". Your basketball team, not so much.
