RE: Sources: UMass to exit MAC
Is there any reasonable argument for UMass to join the MAC in all sports? They would be on an island in a very low revenue league that isn't very good at UMass's best sport (I'm assuming basketball is UMass's best sport.)
I wouldn't mind UMass in the AAC--it would be nice from my (Temple) perspective to have a third Northeast team.

Umass is not worth losing uconn football over
Umass brings nothing to the table we need/want
Wichita/VCU/BYU do
Yeah right. Another flagship, great academic school, good hoops, a travel partner / natural rivalry for UConn and Temple.
LOL ok my bad, I just thought Umass-amherest is equvalent to UNC - Charlotte
I am all for adding flagships... I think tulane should be dropped lol :'( sorry bro... and have Umass and Navy
tulane is private, wealthy school with a dull fanbase I saw that game in the superdome past season.

They weren't a rival for us in the A10 for well over a decade. Xavier was more of a rival than UMass.
OK, but you'd at least have somebody else in the Northeast. I'd be thrilled if we could add Umass for all sports and Army FB only. That would be a home run IMHO.

The only articles I've seen mention that just football is leaving the MAC. The basketball isn't mentioned as moving anywhere. UMASS football is dead weight. No reasone to take on more of a load in a conference already fighting an uphill battle.

Riiiiight...show me something saying Navy isnt joining.
I never said Navy wasn't
Trust me, I take Navy football over UMass any day of the week, hands down.

No, UMass is a much better school than Charlotte. UMass was one of my top 3 choices out of high school.

To be honest, it is hard to take your opinion of another fanbase, nor your advocacy of another school, when you don't know basic information like this. Especially since the only new information you have is "flagship" and now you are gung ho. Especially since your comments about Tulane actually apply MORE to UMASS.

I think it was a ploy to remove them, as contractually they could be if UMass rejected it. Since their football has little value, and with Temple gone, they have no need for them, and they are a cost drain to the others who have to travel there. Just my opinion.

If SOS will be a component of upcoming playoff and Access Bowl formula, then how can anyone advocate adding UMass in football to the AAC? At best you can add them as the 12th member for Olympic sports to offset Navy football, but what is a legit argument for adding UMass in football?

Haha ok I am sorry for offending you, but I am just trying to speak the truth. ECU has been snubbed for it's geographically unfavorable location, a horrible basketball program, and probably the notion that 4 ACC schools to the left have probably soaked up the market anyway....
however that is not true, many members believe ECU should have been added 5 years ago. We got snubbed and Big East poached, and Aresco failed...
but the fan base, football prowess, stadium, growing academics... all make a solid statement for the addition of ECU to the american...
Think ECU has highest football attendance of any team in the American if my facts are right

We don't even know how much SOS will be a component. It seems like a undefeated always gets the benefit of the doubt like last season when NIU and Fresno were in front of UCF until that last week.
UCF went 0-17 before winning the c-usa east divisions. Probably tougher because of location, but the number of TV sets are too hard to pass. If they get good, they have the market to really prop up the value of the AAC.

I knew they had a stellar hoops program. I dont watch too much basketball and them being known for bbal doesn't help my case... As i have assumed, Umass football is dead weight.

It's potential. They would have to build an OCS. UMass students are massive sports fans, they would absolutely sellout a 35k OCS if the product was decent. I have no idea why they can't get it done as it would draw tons of students to the university and bring back alums.
