Considering you miss the SBC's best, and NC State stinks to high heaven, while the other two are average...

It doesn't surprise me.

I saw another ranking of schedule strength from some other source a couple of weeks ago and we were in the 90s on that list. Oh well. I am just hoping of those 3 non-conference games we can get a win out of the 3.

No problem with a weak FBS schedule for our first FBS season. It gives us a chance to harness more momentum with our fan base if we can capitalize.

This is the NCAA SOS method. I think Phil Steele should have his coming soon.

At least we will get around 2 mil from those 3 games and they are games that at least we have a fighting chance to win.

Sounds like GaSo has a win/win schedule. That and having their home game spread out so well
that they do not have two in a row. Would have been hard to sit down and draw it up any better.

If our OOC teams end up playing like they are the worst I'm ok with that, but last year they did well (other than NCST).

We really couldn't have drawn a much better schedule. I think the conference matchup I'm most concerned about is USA in Mobile. That's just a testament to them because I wouldn't have said that a year ago.

FWIW Navy (9-4) and GT (7-6) have the best records of any team we play next season.

It's when you play 5 teams that were a combined 7-53 that drags down your SOS; however, SOS means pretty much nothing next season for us.

Ga State (0-12)
Idaho (1-11)
Sav St (1-11)
NMSU (2-10)
NCST (3-9)

In a transition year I think this is the perfect schedule.

Usually I just lurk around here but...

Oh yeah, and those games against Idaho and NMSU, with their 3 total wins last year are really helping you make it to the NC game (in before people tell me GaSo isn't even bowl eligible). And how brave of you guys to take on the whipping boy of the ACC in NCState.

You can try to pin this on us if you want, but the fact is GaSo and App are transitional AND there are some pretty poorly performing teams in the Belt besides the Panthers. Southern just happens to be playing against most of them.

But yes, GSU football isn't exactly the greatest

It's when you play 5 teams that were a combined 7-53 that drags down your SOS; however, SOS means pretty much nothing next season for us.

Ga State (0-12)
Idaho (1-11)
Sav St (1-11)
NMSU (2-10)
NCST (3-9)

In a transition year I think this is the perfect schedule.

The NCAA method is exactly as you mentioned above. It has nothing to do with YOUR teams record from last year. The only factor used in this stat is the number of wins/losses from your opponents in 2013. Your conference mates records from last year will help/hurt this years overall rank.

The OOC teams you play, example GA Tech and Navy are actually helping your rank, the other teams on your schedule this year hurt your rank .... Ga State (0-12), Idaho (1-11), Sav. St (1-11), NMSU (2-10), NCST (3-9). It is a catch twenty two, you can win all your games this year and if the teams you beat loss the majority of the games they play in 2014, It will keep repeating. Again, look at GA State, 0-12 last year, but they are the highest rated SBC team. Now look at Alabama, they are ranked 95th. Interesting to look at and it may have some merit, however, I am not convinced it has any evaluation value.

Good Luck Guys. Hope the 3 of us transitioning this year can kick some butt. We will see App next year.

Aim High * Go Monarchs * Our Pride is Showing

Ga Southern being at the bottom of the list is no surprise to me and IMO nothing to be ashamed of. Hope we can take advantage of it!

Honestly if we are going to play 3 money games (which we are this year) I would much prefer NC St., Ga. Tech and Navy to playing 3 SEC schools.

I thought it was a GREAT schedule for your first year (or transition year... whatever) in FBS. It gives your team a legitimate shot at a good season, a chance to adjust to a new coach and possibly new season, and gives you a taste of a full slate of FBS schools without putting you through murderer's row.

Two years ago, folks gave us grief for having a really soft schedule, but it was a good one for us in our transition year. I think you guys did well.
