We keep getting these hints that Missouri St. is in serious talks with the Sun Belt. I have not seen anything in the press to verify this, but I hope it is true.

What specific information has been hid from you to get you so upset?

Where have you been?

During bowl selection week it was pointed out that conference champions have to be taken first according to the conference bylaws. An Arkansas reporter put in a question to the league office about that bylaw. The response was to password protect the bylaws on the conference website so that nobody could see them. Then Benson stated that the bylaws nobody could see were merely "guidelines".

As far as I know, they remain password protected. Unlike the other, more professionally run, conferences where they are available for public viewing.

Some of us at Arkansas State don't appreciate being treated like mushrooms or being in a conference where the rules are secret and are not really rules.

I've been in the SoCon, a conference that is run much worse.

So conference champs are or are not taken first?

The rules we can't see say they are...but in reality, it is unclear.

The only way the verify would be for some outside media to do an FOIA request...

But. Something is going on.

RE: Benson
It is ridiculous for the conference bylaws not to be open to review by anyone.
What is Benson trying to do, become the Obama of the SBC?

The ACC regulatory proposal will probably make the conference presidents reluctant
to add anyone to the mix. Has always been a tendency for the older conference
members to resist adds in the SBC.

They were actually the football regulations and provided that in the event of a tie, no one could accept a bowl bid until everyone tied for the title was placed whether or not it was a Sun Belt tied bowl.

The "guidelines" provide that if a school attempts to negotiate its own deal with a bowl the school is to be fined. Imposition of a fine seems more than a mere suggestion that a guideline provides.

Seems stupid to draw something up, make the schools ratify it, and then chunk it out the window because the commissioner doesn't think one of the co-champs should go to a bowl.

Sounds like expansion is either not gaining traction or being kept quiet.
Appears no candidate has the vote at this time.

It doesn't say that at all.

Last go round they identified targets at the tournament and then did the final work-up and voted later.

Gotcha. In that case then yes its being kept quiet. I think more will come out of spring meetings.

I'm trying to read between the lines, but it sounds like MSU had a rep at in NOLA. Did Liberty, JMU, or anyone else? A MSU FIOA request could be interesting. Its what broke App St and GaSo open last year.

I care less about the "guidelines" than I do the fact that they password protected our own bylaws in a deliberate effort to keep us, the fans, ignorant.

stAte fans don't generally like administrative shenanigans that try to pull wool over their eyes.

As said before. stAte was going to get shafted out of a bowls this past season so WKU could go, but stAte was co-champs. Benson tried to hide the bylaws so he would get his way. stAte officials step in and told benson where to stick it.

We still need more than the 3 guaranteed bowls we have. 3 is better than 2 but we still need 1 more guaranteed bowl.

AState went into the final weeks looking at the football regulations anticipating that a tie would guarantee a bowl. The regs said it must happen. When AState lost at Bowling Green the commissioner said the regulations were mere guidelines. AState contacted Mobile and was told that the league had informed them that AState was headed to Shreveport even though the bowl had not extended an invite and was being pressured by its sponsor to take a BCS league team.
