The only reason why the AAC was came together was because they had some money left from the departing Big East FB schools. Also, I believe the NCAA grandfathered the FB schools to keep the BE's auto-bid (for the last and final year of the auto-bid). I am not sure if this applied to the AAC's Olympic sports too.

Joining an existing league does not require near the start up money.

But it would allow us to get out from under that disastrous TV deal

Exclamation RE: Hypothetical: What if Liberty is invited?
Assuming that all schools have a vote since this affects their individual athletic departments budgets and by reading the tea leaves on this board, I surmise the vote by school to be the following:

Yes

App State
Georgia State

No

Arkansas State
Arkansas - Little Rock
Georgia Southern
Idaho
Louisiana Lafayette
Louisiana Monroe
New Mexico State
South Alabama
Texas State
Texas Arlington
Troy

That would 11 to 2 against inviting Liberty. Why do we assume that UTA and UALR do not have a vote? Did I miss something?

UTA and UALR do have a vote for an all-sports add.

I think most people feel Troy would be pro-Liberty.

Then that would make it 9 yes votes and 12 no votes which is 75%. If that is the case then we are screwed. I just don't see Troy voting for Liberty.

Keep in mind, NMSU and Idaho do not have a vote.

That was quite the stretch of an argument.

There won't be a new league formed by Sun Belt schools simply because anything that would trigger it, won't pass.

Simple question.

If the deal sucks that bad and is that far out of line with what the market could bring, why did Benson not bother to use the first look in last summer to renegotiate?

I think you assume too much. Haven't seen much if any LU hate coming from Southern. Don't underestimate how much we want a CCG. We are used to having a "Championship" of some sort as a target. No we didn't have a CCG in the SoCon - something we hated and would like to get away from. Sure we could win the conference, maybe even out right at some point without a CCG - but considering the lack of bowl tie ins and the "impossible" invite to the (4 team) aka plus one playoff - A real chance to earn a post season game is a real motivator. Especially if we stand any chance of hosting that game in "the Boro". If it were up to me, and JMU said no: I'd vote YES on Liberty.

Is it possible to set up a poll on that vote from the members here?

Nothing would happen except a CCG on national TV.

RE: Hypothetical: What if Liberty is invited?
People talk of teams leaving if Liberty got an invite. The reasoning is flawed. If an invite happens it's because they got a majority of the vote. Most think it's 9 of 11. So if I understand you're presidents are going to vote Liberty in and then leave because they got an invite. Does that sound logical? Truth be told, if most SB schools had anywhere else to go they would already be gone. Has CUSA invited any SB school and got rejected? Life would go on.

It's not a "vote them in then leave because they are in" scenario.

It's more of "how much pull do the two dissenting votes" get? My guess is still similar to what you are saying in that if they have that much pull, they would be able to prevent your inclusion.

The flawed thinking is that sbc schools could leave and form a new conference without fcs schools. Its a little ridiculous that cusa schools would leave to join a new conference made up of sbc schools or that tv dollars would make that possible.

Previously explained that you are wrong, but the discussion is pointless except in a theoretical sense.

Go and talk Jacksonville State into joining the WAC in an effort to restart WAC FBS football.
