My parents were at the WKU girls game yesterday and said their were maybe 200 there counting players, band and cheerleaders....I would doubt Hot Spring had anymore..

Its hard to compare because of the way the two sites were set up. We used two courts in Hot Springs and the Girls always played in the afternoon. This format is pretty unique.
Realistically, it will be Saturday before we can even compare the two.

Rumor at the Georgia Dome is that TAMU sold 12 ticket books for the SEC Tournament.

Normally the Cajuns would have a great turnout in Nola, we still might, but we have a 3 game series with Oklahoma for softball. We have the ULM series in baseball in Monroe and 4 local basketball teams in the high school state championships in Lake Charles. Cajun fans are spread pretty thin this weekend.

I see some tweets talking about the very low attendance of one of the SEC games. They said 500 included band, etc.

Not with this format it wouldn't.
I backed out of going when I couldn't stay around the Quarter for less than $350 a night. Fortunately for me, AState got off its mini-roll and I lost interest in going.

When you've got teams like Miss State (3-15 SEC) playing in the tournament, it's hard to figure out why the fans aren't there.

Really softball and baseball take precedence over a one and done college basketball tournament 1 hour away to get to the NCAA tournament? And you are making excuses due to a sport that lasts until May? Posters amaze me more and more on this board every day...Makes me wish the tournament was an hour away from BG the last 10 years...

I bolded the reasons why we may be light in number. Lake Front Arena is 2.5 hours away from Lafayette. That and Bob Marlin has not captured the Lafayette demographic.
To add to it, softball is ranked I think 23rd and baseball is as high as 6th. So yeah, after 9 years of losing in basketball those two sports get more attention.
We just ended the longest period in our history without a winning record and that includes the 2 years of the death penalty.

Didn't say it was, but pathetic for fans of a school with a legitimate chance of winning tournament with a future NBA PG, citing softball and regular season games, high school games as reasons to not make a 2 hour trip on a Friday night? Just sounds dumb to me....I realize no one care about basketball, I get it but sill, regular season softball and baseball....haha

High School Basketball is one of those things that's hard to avoid. You've got parents with kids involved in the game, and then you have others who follow their High School Teams religiously. Same theory exists in football.
I'd get your argument on Softball and Baseball. But the Cajuns have been a far better baseball and softball program historically than basketball. You don't just win those fans back with one good year.
If the Cajuns were like WKU and had been a basketball school with a ton of tradition and history...we're not having this discussion.

Sorry man, but Northside High in the Top 28 will draw more than any Cajuns home game period. You think WKU had trouble with basketball? We went through 10 years without a winning season. Twice had mass defections under Bob Marlin. We only won 20 games because we played 3 non scholarship programs. People around here are apathetic towards Cajuns basketball because the university didn't give a crap about it after Jessie Evans left.
Haven't sniffed an NCAA bid since Lee's first year and that was vacated because of a crappy compliance officer, who did the same thing to stAte. Long gone are the days where the Cajuns were 6 deep with guys who play at the professional level. We have no freak athletes like Dwayne Mitchel, Orien Green, Tirus Wade, Mike Southall, Laurie Bridges, Brian Hamilton or shooters like Brad Boyd. Hell that team would have went undefeated in Sun Belt play.
Elfrid Peyton and Shawn Long are the only two players on this team that could have seen significant playing time under Jessie Evans. The rest are not that good.
I do not see any Courtney Lee's or Chris Marcus type players suiting up for WKU. You guys are just as apathetic towards basketball and attendance shows. Yet, y'all have continued to win. We sucked it up big time for a decade.
We will need Peyton to stay for his senior season and Long to stay for his junior season. Couple that with two of the three incoming signee's and we will be way better next year. Fans will start to show up and maybe Marlin can get us going in the right direction. If Peyton leaves and we do not have a winning season, he will be on the hot seat. We will need a Hud type hire for basketball in order to get things back to where they were.

Pretty Much our two basketball programs have the exact same problem. Years ago, we used to be really good under a former coach who is still incredibly popular in the town. We then each suffered through years of mediocrity, and while our current coaches aren't exactly struggling, neither have set the world on fire, and neither are winning fans with their charming personality.
Ironically, the success of our football programs may be contributing to basketball's demise in a way. Once your football team starts winning, its hard for fans to support mediocrity in any sport.

IIRC, Cajun baseball registered 10,000+ (SRO) actual fans for the 3 game home series with Alabama. I know there were a few decent crowds this year in the CajunDome, but I imagine there weren't many strings of 3 home games that featured more than 10K.

Bingo, football is more successful than ever. Baseball is Top 10, softball is Top 25 and basketball is mediocre. It is hard to respect the program that was once the face of your university when they are now the program dragging you down.

Of course, we'll cut back flips if the Cajuns make the NCAA's.
