RE: App State Fires Basketball Coach
I'd rather see App bring in a successful DII head coach than get a retread or another unproven assistant. Recruiting might be a challenge but at least get someone that can keep players and run some form of offense. There is enough basketball talent in NC, SC and GA to have a good program at App.

And please don't mention "the coach that will remain nameless" again. He was the reason App had to go to Capel in the first place.

Ironically that "the coach that will remain nameless" was fired yesterday.

Not a chance in hell he gets another shot in Boone, the way he skipped town was like he robbed a bank and his name hit the blotter.

Nope, Steph Curry's brother is Seth Curry (Liberty and Duke). Ron Curry played basketball and football at UNC, and WR for the Raiders. They are not brothers, and quite sure they aren't related at all.

I saw App isn't going to release any of their commitments now. Pretty dangerous road they are going down.

Not going to release them until a new coach is hired. I think that makes sense. At least give the new guy a chance to talk to them before a final decision is made. If either still want out, they will be released.

Yeah I see little to no harm in not releasing them until a new coach is hired. If they get a chance to talk to the new coach and decide they don't want to play for him, then it would definitely be a bad move on the part of App to not release them.

I can't believe anyone would commit to play for Capel anyway. It was pretty obvious he wasn't going to be coaching in Boone after this season.

One thing Capel was very good at was his recruiting. Now once the players were here they didn't improve much unless they had a fire beneath them (Sims, Healy), but he knows the AAU circuit well.

Well, I just meant this season. It'd be difficult to recruit for a season when the chances of it being your last are really high.

Anyway, any reliable reports about potential targets?

If you cannot coach, you are not a coach.

Heard some guy named Majors applied, but they turned him down. jk

The Graham situation along with this does not look good to parents and AAU coaches. I don't blame App for trying salvage recruits but letting them go would pay off in the long run. Best of luck to them in finding a new coach, I know their fans were ready.

App is in the right on the Graham situation.

The kid signed a letter in the early signing period to play at App. We thought he was good enough to play for us when others didn't. He had the opportunity to wait for a "better" offer, he didn't.

If you sign a contract you honor it.

RE: App State Fires Basketball Coach
There's no staff to release LOI signees. The entire staff was let go and there won't be an interim until next week as this week is Spring Break and all the players are gone.

The Graham thing turned from App getting blasted at first to more the other way around. The more the Graham side talked, the more crap they spouted. They talked about how Graham didn't like the Sun Belt move because his family couldn't watch him play. So he goes to play prep ball at a New Hampshire powerhouse, further from home that most Sun Belt schools. Then he changed course from never wanting to go to App to maybe he'll go if Capel isn't the coach.

Then you got his #freedtae people on Twitter harassing our recruits, fans and coaches. Graham himself responded to me once and I didn't even Tweet his Twitter handle.

AD Charlie Cobb made it clear on Monday he's not sure if he can talk recruits during this time and will be cautious as to not break any NCAA rules.

Worrell and Flomo (the two Class of 2014 signees) are both wanting out, but Cobb also said it's up to the new coach. Flomo Tweeted that App wouldn't release him and stirred the pot, but that's due to a lack of procedural understanding.

As far as candidates, haven't seen anything yet. I wrote a bit about potential candidates, some out there, some possible.

Schools should not approach a player already signed with another school.
Not only did that happen but they know who did it. You hold firm or it
will happen to you time after time. Will discourage other schools from doing
something underhanded.

App State hasn't experienced anything until they get a player who fakes a sick Grandmother to transfer to a major conference school, and then two years later asks to transfer back when he realized said major conference school wasn't playing him.
