Exactly, all we did is beat the crap out of CUSA. Definitely not quality.
That's why you guys are poised to upset a team or two come the big dance

Pains me to say it, but it shows just how low SBC basketball has dwindled over the past few years. It's all about winning OOC games and recruiting. Also SBC basketball attendance is an embarrassment.
And don't forget RPI ratings.

With 68 teams in the tournament, and 33 automatic bids... a SBC team would need an RPI in the 40's to have any shot whatsoever at an at-large bid. About 20 Conference champs will have RPI's higher than GSU. There will also be about 50 teams who did NOT win their conference, but have RPI's better than 75; most of those from basketball power conferences. That leaves 50 teams ahead of them for 35 slots, more or less.. No NCAA at large for GSU. Sorry.

All of GSU wins, except 4, came against teams with an RPI of 150 or higher. The four wins were against WKU (115) and ULL (125).
Their next best win was against ODU at 172.
Their SOS was 269
All of which will be forgotten if they make a deep run in the tournament. I'm no GA St fan but having watched a couple of their games I do believe they are better than their RPI. If they were to lose to UL, WKU or Ark St in the SBC championship game it may set the Belt up for two bids this year.
There's no chance at all...zero...that the Belt gets two bids this year. A Belt team would need an rpi in the 40's, at worst, to even get a sniff at a bid. Not gonna happen.

I guess that MAY BE true... I am not schooled in basketball so it seemed possible from this casual fan's perspective.

It's no slam on GaSt or the SBC but it's just the way it is. Since 1999 only 2 teams with 70 or worse rpi's were given at large bids and both of them were because of very tough schedules and some good wins during the season. It's even rare for teams in the upper 50's and 60's to get at large bids. Even Southern Miss last year with an rpi around the 30's was left out.

RE: SBC MBB Champs receive no votes
I hate to say it because I'm not a negative person, but the only team out of the Sun Belt going to the Dance is the team that wins the SBC Tourney. Sorry Geogia State, you have to win if you want in.
I really do think if WKU, UL, ASU, or USA would have won the regular season championship with a 24-7 record that they would receive an at large bid. The Sun Belt would then have 2 teams in the NCAA Tournament.
But this year, it will only be the conference tournament winner dancing and don't be surprised if its as a 15 or 16 seed.
The Sun Belt has definitely declined in basketball. I remember the big rivalries between UL and WKU, UL and USA, Middle Tenn and WKU. The Venues would be packed for those games.
Now it is hard to get excited when 2 teams with 19 wins and 2nd seed in the tournament is on the line play. Maybe its just me but the attendance seems to back it up, 4,810, when it used to be packed for a game between UL and WKU, no matter what the records were.
Hopefully new rivalries will be formed with the new teams joining the conference and bring some excitement back to SBC basketball. I love basketball and love going to games where it gets so loud that you cant talk to your friend sitting right next to you
We could possibly send 3 teams to the NIT.

Only way we get a team in the NIT is if Georgia State pulls a MTSU.

Panama, are you laughing at the same reason why I started this Thread, that Georgia State can't recieve a vote in ANY poll after winning the conference regular season championship with a 24-7 record. You should be embarrassed instead of laughing.
By that, your team is drsgging the whole conference down. It's all about perception, and Georgia State has none in basketball and football. wrestling maybe and that's a big maybe.
So quit laughing at your team. Y'all have done nothing but hurt the conference since joining. Your football team sucked and even after being regular season champions in basketball it sucks for the rest of the conference. lol

I am laughing that people are still looking for some way for us to not make the tourney. A week off. Two games. I love our chances.

When the conference regular season champ with a 24-7 record can't receive 1 vote in a poll, especially after dominating the conference with a 17-1 record, it drags the conference and its perception down.
After all my years following the Sun Belt I've never seen that, seriously. I have nothing against GaSt. but its just reality.
Maybe it is because you haven't been following the Sun Belt for as long as I have. Usually 19 wins would get you in the NIT at least.

What? So we go 17-1 in conference, therefore we are "dragging" the conference down? You realize that's the most illogical arguemnet ever posted here? You are not insulting GSU but every other school in the conference. It's mind boggling how you think that makes sense. And for the record we haven't had wrestling for some 7 years. I hope I missed a punchline somewhere.

The formula for getting votes is pretty simple - have a good RPI (or other power ranking.) And the power rankings are based on who you play, who you beat, who they played and who they beat. 19 wins doesn't mean that much if your SOS was crap and lost to a few crap teams. Also, you realize that conference RPI is a zero sum game once conference play begins, right?
When a team has a bad OOC loss it hurts the RPI for every team they play.
Maybe if UL hadn't lost to the Mighty Jackson State Tigers, 6th Place, SWAC (7-11 Conf, 11-19 overall,) the SBC conference RPI wouldn't be quite so abysmal. The same can be said of WKU losing to a crappy Marshall team or GSU and a crappy FIU.
You can point the finger at GSU all you want but the conference RPI is poor because every team in the conference underperformed in OOC play.

Can't win with some of these guys. What the hell does whomever is voting have to do with us? We went out on the court and handled our business. Two more games to handle it and it doesn't matter who votes for us.
Y'all are mad when we lose and mad when we win. Get over it already. We're here.
