It's a shame because he was a gamer. Word is that his career went up in smoke.

It can happen to any program. Hard to control Young Individuals or Older Coaches for that matter.

That's harsh. I hope he can get it together.

Ruff had no choice seeing as Webster was arrested while he was already suspended from the team.

I hope Danny can get on the right track.

"Gamer" may be a bit of an overstatement. I recall a bad fumble against UNC at home in 2011...and some real inconsistency throughout. He never lived up to his potential.

To be honest, I don't get it....is partying more important than your career? If you showed up hungover to work and your boss said, you are on probation, don't let it happen again....and then you did it again, what's the boss supposed to do. I have heard that Mr. Webster (and his fam) always had an excuse when he did something wrong.

Too bad for him, maybe he can transfer and go play his senior year somewhere. The Pirates will be fine without him.

We still have a lot of good receivers coming back & we always have some freshman step up and surprise every year with this offense.

Webster didn't even play for us last year. Not a big loss.

Sure he did; I think it was after the UNC game he got suspended.

But nonetheless, it's not a loss and probably a gain that he's gone if he can't keep his head on straight.

Danny is a good guy and a friend of mine, but he couldn't get past the distractions. I hate to see how has ECU career went as I knew him before he was a Pirate and wish him the best wherever he lands.
As far as on the field production goes, he did a lot of things that most fans don't notice. His entire freshman year he ran the drag route as the dump-off, and got clocked several times after making the catch. I think his biggest impact wasn't in catches or touchdowns, but in downfield and special teams blocking. He's a pretty little guy, but had some monster blocks.

Paraphrasing the words of Steve Logan:

"Get in trouble once, take your suspension. Get in trouble after you KNOW people are watching you, you're out of here."

He made some big plays for us. He had a nice TD reception in the very back of the endzone on the last play of regulation against Marshall that got us into OT & eventually a win in '12. I also remember him catching a crucial 4th down conversion against Navy in '11 on our game winning drive in Annapolis a couple years ago. I know he had many more big plays that I'm not remembering & you're right he was an excellent blocker and he made a lot of subtle plays that went unnoticed that helped us win games. He will be missed.

That said, we are so loaded at the WR position that this really is a non-factor as far as team goals are concerned.

Justin Hardy one of the best in the nation IMO.

Isaiah Jones, started as true freshman, great player with high ceiling, second leading WR. Big frame for WR, he can added weight and be a much more physical WR than he already is.

Davin Grayson, start as a true freshman, 4 of his first 5 catches as a Pirate were TD's, was second behind Hardy in yardage until his seaso ending injury. Very fast kid.

Bryce Williams, 6'6 240 lbs TE/IWR has filled the TE need nicely and been a quality replacement for Justin Jones, more than I thought he'd be. More very well dispite his size.

To name a few, also with our offense you need to include the RB in the passing game, Cooper was 3rd on the team in receiving. We return several, Hairston, Hunter, Marquez Grayson (red-shirt, but my odds on fav to win the starting job, fast, good size, and power) and Breon Allen, small ( listed at 5'8 190, think it closer to 5'7 165) but, the kid can flat out fly, I'm talking CJ2K kinda speed.

Love dw but the kid has been his own worst enemy since he was 12. Best of luck and hope he can figure out how to pull it together.

I'm convinced that we would've won that game if they didn't put him back in.

That was Shaw's first game and we got to him several times in that first quarter and he was shell shocked. Garcia was their saving grace in that game.

Good riddance, now we have an extra scholarship to give to someone who actually wants to play here.

I know that a lot of Pirates are sorry he's getting a 3rd chance but keep in mind that the kid lost a senior season with Carden & Hardy. He has apparently gotten his life back on track and now has to fight back on as a walk-on.

Jonathan Williams got a 3rd chance, missed a season & ended up being a productive senior & from my understanding, Webster's transgressions weren't nearly as bad as JW. I think it's a good call by Ruff to give him one last chance.
