I don't know that I would call it a dying medium, as it still holds value in places where a video cannot be used (driving, IN the office, etc). It's definitely shrinking, but I don't think it will ever die.

Plus, anytime you get your name into ANY medium, it's a good thing.

Newspapers are dying. Local Radio is in trouble, but smart stations can figure out how to market around satellite radio.

Know what you mean. No school wants their sports teams even remotely associated with any media outlet with the letters ESPN. Let alone the top sports talk station in the 24th biggest market in the country. Some 49er fans crack me up!

FM radio is in trouble due of Sirius, but AM is the preferred outlet for local sports talk.

I will take any media exposure we can get, especially in the back yard of school who we will continue to compete against in recruiting.04-cheers

This is evident by how many FM stations have converted to talk formats (news, sports, etc) in recent years. There's no money in playing music but you can find a niche in talk. I don't listen to music stations, so I don't personally see the attraction of Sirius since the talk stations have commercials (and much of the same programming available locally for free). I do like in online streaming and look forward to listening to these App broadcasts from home in Virginia.

I do like the fact that Appalachian State negotiated the deal themselves since both schools participate in the IMG network.

Why make these comments? Our product has been complete crap for the last 10 years. 730 is just trying to get listeners. We aren't providing that with our awful basketball product, and at one time, that was our bread and butter. Their basketball isn't great, but they could probably get comparable numbers as of late. Congrats to the Apps.

As for the quality of signal from 730... I'll let the App fans figure that one out.

Why listen to sports talk? They tend to be idiots on sports programs anyway.

ESPN being a gleaming example.

Yea because it's not like the vast majority of sports fans are brainless zombies listening to ESPNs take as the word of god... It's not like all we complain about is how espn centric casual fans are like every other minute on this board.... Doesn't matter if they are stupid, the casual fan likes to listen.

RE: ESPN730 Charlotte to replace UNCC with App State
IMG was outbid by App. We'll find out where we are ending up.

Rumor is 610, which is Charlotte's top sports radio station. It's a pretty terrible station full of ACC homers though. 730 was pretty friendly to us while 610 laughs at anyone not in the ACC or SEC.

I don't personally care because I don't listen to the radio. We have all our home games guaranteed on television for the next two years and it is fairly likely that all of our games will be on television this year since none of our away games are more than 3 hours away.

730 is great for those in south Charlotte! Our presence in Charlotte is growing, just hired a full time athletic member located here.

730 added an additional tower in 2013 and can be heard even at night in a larger area around CLT.
