Hate it, but there will be someone else who will step up and appreciate the opportunity for a scholarship. Erk Russell's "Do Right" is a pretty simple mantra that would have served those involved well.

Looking at this purely from a personnel standpoint, it isn't as big of a loss as it would appear outwardly. Swope hasn't contributed meaningful minutes since our semi-final loss to NDSU in 2012.

I just hope he and Lewis can get rehabilitated and return to a productive state, whether that is physically, mentally or socially.

1)I hope Cam Lewis is ok.

2)If this is the case this will be the 4th year in a row App State will have played a Swope-less GS, and he's game changer IMO.

Since his freshmen debut in 2011.
With a healthy Swope (30-6) .833
With no Swope or limited play due to injury (7-7). .500

Not the end of charges coming. This is going to get really bad

The whole situation sucks. I'm wondering what exactly happened. So far all we have is one side (not saying the girl is lying, but what was going through Swope and apparently the other players with him minds). Right now it seems like a case of vigilante justice gone too far. Hope the former player makes a full recovery, but unfortunately it doesn't look good.
Just bad all around. Was really looking forward to seeing Swope run riot next year. Dang.

Agreed. I knew someone would post this over here as soon as possible. I wish we would just let it die on our own page until the legal system plays it out.

Since it is already here I will only say, for those not plugged into Southern, that what appears to have happened is that Swope ran into Lewis. (a former player who had been kicked off of the team in he fall for allegedly breaking into other player's apartments and being a thief) - an altercation began, Swope hit Lewis and Lewis fell and hit his head on the pavement when he landed. Since Lewis is still in the hospital with serious complications including brain swelling, Swope is being held pending the outcome of that and more investigations. The only alleged eye witness "facts" being reported appear to me to be from what might be Lewis's girlfriend - at any rate a girl that seems to be a friend of Lewis, so yea.... here side of the story is going to be for Lewis.

Let's just wait and see what happens, I hope Lewis has a speedy recovery and charges don't get more serious for Swope.

I hope these stories are few and far between for all Belt programs - hate to see them aired out without understanding or knowledge of what really happened. The "Facts" are changing with updated articles (example: Lewis was taken to hospital by friends, then later: Lewis was taken to hospital by EMS). Wonder what else will change. At any rate, What looks bad for one of us reflects on the conference, and I'm certainly sorry that we have contributed to any embarrassment or negative publicity that the conference might receive by being associated with this or us. I pray that this thing comes out with the smallest consequences possible for all parties, Lewis recovers without lasting problems and that Swope's charges become nothing more than a regular fight between college kids that had no intent of the head to pavement contact at the end of the fall.
