Michael Sam, NFL draftee, has announced that he is gay. He will be the first openly gay NFL player. Kudos to Michael! And I hope I live long enough to see the day where sexual orientation is no longer an issue with anyone. It's long past time.

As long as he can play football...who cares?

On another note, I don't get him announcing it either, I don't call press conferences to say I have big feet or whatever.

Personally, based on my religious views, I don't agree with homosexuality. However, that said, we live in a different world than we did 50 years ago.

I don't understand why this really should even be a story. Its actually almost sad that it needs to be a story. I give the kid a lot of credit for coming out and getting ahead of it. Hope he gets drafted and has a great career. Obviously, it didn't effect his play or his teams play last season at Missouri. I don't see why is should have any real bearing on what he does at the next level.

It really is a story that should be a non story in my opinion.

Not necessarily a conservative response. Could be liberal view point that sexual orientation is no big deal in today's world, and does not warrant a breaking news story.

60 years ago if a college football player fathered a child it was scandalous, and he could be kicked off the team. Today nobody cares. I think that is the point being made about Sam's story. Why should we care or it even matter at all?

I'm guessing neither of you can be fired/denied employment because of who you are.

It's an unbelievably huge story since we've never had an active/openly gay player in any major American sport.

Something that apparently goes right over all of your straight, white heads.
