If Memphis can be competitive against UCF in football this year, then UCF can compete and win against Memphis in basketball. College basketball is much more unpredictable than college football.
Not this year it isn't. UCF is just painful to watch right now. Ugly, ugly basketball. Aside from maybe 3 or 4 guys, there is very little talent on this team. Memphis will win by 30-40, especially knowing how Pastner likes to keep his starters in to run up the score on weaker teams.
Holy cow. Did you really say that?
You haven't been paying attention. When we get up 20 or so, Pastner generally slows down the pace, or at least doesn't react much, when our players ease up the intensity.
Once we're up 20 in the second half, he sometimes puts the second team in, but they are better than a lot of other teams' starters. And they want to score, too. Not Pastner's fault.
Until the past couple of weeks, he did keep the starters in, but not to run up the score. He was playing a 7-man rotation, and was trying to fine tune some things. But we still slowed down our pace, took off the full court press, etc.
And when we get down to the last few minutes with a comfortable lead, he has us use up the shot clock before shooting. A couple of times, we just handed the ball back to the ref.
And recently, even the walk-ons have been getting in for a few minutes.
Finally, no matter who is in, he always keeps them from shooting the last possession or two.
There have been a few threads on the Memphis board griping about Pastner not letting us blow out lesser teams.
I'm thinking you haven't watched many of our games.
