RE: AP & Coaches Poll 01.27.14
Memphis, SMU and UConn all getting shafted IMO.
Memphis - Only losses were to solid ball clubs. Split a series with OK State and beat UL. Extremely close loss to #3 FL.
UConn - Beat that same FL team. Impressive OOC outside of a close Stanford loss.
SMU- Only losses to solid teams and took care of UConn. Easily took care of almost everyone else..
Cincy looking solid, lucky their two losses are behind them. UH kind of dug their own grave OOC or else the win over UConn would've looked great and not so bad on UConn. UL is...well UL.

I totally agree. It appears the pollsters are keeping our teams barely ranked or just outside the top 25. So when we play each other the ranked team falls out but the unranked team may or may not enter the polls. Seemd like we have been capped at a certain perception limit.

They are in a league that's pulled off a couple of huge round of 64 upsets:
2005: #14 Bucknell defeated #3 Kansas
2012: #15 Lehigh (Go Hawks! ) defeated #2 Duke

Well I was thinking maybe they were one of those undefeated schools out in the boonies that pop up ever few years, but they are 12-7 with a 134 RPI. Their best win is against RPI 94 Boston University, they have four losses against sub-150 RPI squads, and my favorite, a two point win at HOME against RPI 336 UMBC (that's the esteemed University of Maryland, Baltimore County for those of you who don't know). They are 8-0 in the Patriot so I guess that means they are good enough to be ranked, who knew?

As long as SMU, UConn, Memphis, Cincinnati, and Louisville only lose to each other I think we do.

The problem is the bottom few schools are dragging everyones RPI down. UConn started last week with an RPI of 29 then blew out Temple by 24 and beat Rutgers by 11 on the road and dropped 9 spots to 38.

Well don't look around the corner to next year --- some of the teams coming in next season can lower you RPI by simply practicing in your gym.

RE: AP & Coaches Poll 01.27.14
Ironic for Memphis fans. We always complained being in CUSA, that we have early tough foes, and if we lose to them, we have to run the table in CUSA to climb back in, and get around a 6 seed.
So this year, we still have a tough OOC, have a much tougher league, pretty much hold our own, get a couple of top 10 wins and a close one with FL, and STILL struggle to be ranked, and probably heading for something around a 6 seed again.
A tougher league doesn't seem to be helping us any, unless we run the table in it, too, lol.

Doubt it. Some of the ECU fans on this board said the same thing about this year. How has that worked out? Your schedule next year for conference games will be stronger, even with the loss of Louisville. For teams looking to compete for an NCAA bid, games against ECU are RPI killers. Not a rant, just a fact..

I'd like to see that, because almost every pirate fan I know said this would be a down year compared to last year BEFORE we lost two key players and another was injured early into the season.
Doubt it all you want... we will be better next year. The reasons have been posted relentlessly on this board, if you've paid attention.

You're both probably right. East Carolina will be better next year, but they will also be in a tougher conference so the record may not end up reflecting it. I think ECU basketball will get better and better as the years go on in this conference.

Never thought of the end result in those terms...still the in between is night and day. I subscribe to many national feeds (SI, ESPN, SN...) and the publicity between this year and last is unreal. I guess the old adage "Perception is reality" holds true.

Well, I'm hoping the selection committee has more sense than the sportswriters or coaches. I think Cincy and UConn are undervalued, too.
Louisville seems to have the opposite issue, lol, although they have played lights out since Jones went down.
