I think the black pants and black jersey with the white helmet would be a nice look.

This ^. I had no problem with the helmets, but I think a lot of fans like myself were expecting them to come out in all black and were disappointed in the gold jerseys, which just didn't look right with the rest of the uniform. But since GOL was the one who didn't want to do the all black look, naturally he's going to blame it on the helmets!

Seriously, what were they thinking? White jerseys would have looked good. Black jerseys would have looked good.

Based on how quickly they sold, I'd say UCF definitely undervalued them. $800 seems like a more appropriate price.

I'd have to agree. Typical helmets cost around $350 retail, so even at wholesale price, I doubt the AD made much if anything selling them for that.

Perhaps UCF has a contract with Shutt, ect. where helmets are provided, but otherwise I don't think UCF has their players running up and down the field in 10+ year old $100 Ridells.

You may want to check the prices of legitimate NCAA approved helmets.

Last price I got on a licensed NFL helmet was about $250 about 2 years ago. I'd agree $100 is too low.

GOL wasn't going to let the boys wear these "bad luck" helmets anymore so why not sell them, right?

$350 for authentic (not game warn)
$450 for Game Worn

Sold out in either 5 or 9 minutes. Varying reports. $35,000 + fundraiser. Nice.

Total raised in 9 mins from the sale of 110 helmets was $45,150.

Props to UCF to limiting the sale to current donors/season tix holders are this was a nice "thank you".

If UCF had opened up the sale to outside interest (i.e. 3rd parties, memorabilia companies, etc...), they obviously could have raised a few more $$$$ but UCF made a great decision in keeping the sale "in the family" (at least to start) as all UCF fans want to cherish and celebrate this most amazing season for a very, very, very long time.

O'Leary has a thing against fashion trends or complete black outs as the game was billed, so we went with the horrendous gold jerseys.

I assume these probably cost UCF around $300 a piece. So I'm sure the funds raised weren't that high. Still pretty cool that they sold out so fast.

Maybe they can use the money made to buy black jerseys :)

We have black jerseys. They were worn just once during the Akron game. IMO, that is our best look (white-black-gold), and we wore it just once.

O'Leary says he's not involved with uniform choices, but he clearly is, and he hates black for some reason. I have little doubt that all-black was supposed to be the look for the USF game and was shot down by GOL. I agree the gold shirts made that combo look hideous.

Well, with all of the concern over concussions, nobody is going to throw their players into battle with a $100 helmet. I think a decent Shutt is over $350 today, and that's without paint/prep.

I didn't mean to come off as picking on "Knights_of_UCF", I just think he's off base this time.
