Would a split affect you?
Would the Big Ten and other P5 conference splitting off into a new subdivision affect you as a fan? What other teams/conference would you think would be included? Who would we take to get to 16 if the other majors expanded to 16? Discuss. What about Stipends?

RE: Would a split affect you?
I'd rather not see a split off. If there were to be one I'd like to see all of the FBS conferences plus maybe a handful of others be the new D-1. (Big East, A-10, WCC, MVC for sure, maybe the CAA, WAC) Stipends are a must, the current system does not include the full cost of attendance. A $5000 a year stipend to all student-athletes would be legitimate.

RE: Would a split affect you?
I think the odds of an outright split are very small at this point. There doesn't seem to be the will for that even if it's thrown out as threat here and there (and more often just talked about by fans).

More likely, is that the current division 1 and FBS/FCS structure remains, but more power is returned to the conference level from the NCAA level (basically federalism as it would be referred to in politics). The major conferences will be able to offer more with the scholarships (making them equal to full academic scholarships, pay for families to go to away games, etc) and implement rules that might be too expensive for the rest of division 1, but not a huge deal for them.

As for expansion, even if there was a split, there would be no reason to rush to anything. The Big 12 isn't going anywhere and it's at 10 teams. The PAC-12 has no options that are likely to increase their revenue unless Texas changes it's mind. The ACC and SEC are trying to adjust to 14 (with 8 game conference schedules) and I think it would take a lot for them to be willing to expand right now. Even they all did, I'd rather stay as is. 14 is already too big for a conference, let's not become 2 separate conferences in football united by a CCG.
