Guy was still in the throes of an adrenaline rush when interviewed. We thought it weird, then just moved on.

It's all a big nothing burger. Must be a really slow news day.

Agreed, there are oodles of examples of both on and off-the-field antics and downright criminal activity that makes this little outburst look like child's play.

Not that I condone the interview. But I can't get too worked up about it.

The Seahawks fan who threw food on an injured 49ers player getting carted off the field is far more offensive to me.

Yes, some kids dream of being professional athletes.

But that doesn't mean they believe that makes it okay to be wife beaters-philanderers, drug abusers, or even over-the-top interviewees.

They're smarter-more discerning than you give them credit for, like my weight room example above.

Wow. True ignorance at its finest.

I'm betting your idea of a role model is your former State Rep Dave Agema.

Not only former state Rep but Agema has a leadership position on the RNC.

You have no idea what you're talking about

If you choose your role models because they can run, jump, throw, etc. - that's a "you" problem.

Or maybe you had no positive adult influences growing up. Or were too stupid to emulate them instead of somebody you saw on TV.

He was State Rep from Band Boy's home district.

You know it's pretty bad when Betsy DeVos and the RNC chair are rebuking you.

He's only been serving and spewing his vile since, officially, 2007. Took ol Betsy long enough. Screw her.

Hoople - it is seriously shocking at how ignorant you sound right now. Can't believe you are this misinformed (or naive?) not to understand this concept, especially considering your background.

I was fortunate to have my father as my role model. A lot kids aren't as fortunate.

RE: Another proud moment for the National Thug League
I think the guy represented himself as the worst part of professional athletics. While I didn’t have reason to root for one Super Bowl team over another prior to the interview, I do now, so glad for that.

To suggest that it was racist to be upset that one black player treated another black player as poorly, and with as little class, humility and dignity as Sherman did to Crabtree is beyond ridiculous.

There is no defense for that behavior. The "heat of the moment" argument is a red herring. Most players’ interviewed after something like that behave with class and humility. This guy is an idiot!

The guy who had a 1400 on his ACT?

Missed Valedictorian of his HS by one point?

Graduated from Stanford and is working on his master's there?

Is bright and articulate enough to have been given a column on si.com (a CNN company)?

Yeah, he's an idiot alright.

In the heat of the moment he behaved in a regrettable manner (for which he has since apologized).

Try to put your prejudices aside and separate the actions from the person.

Why must you insist that because people didn't like the way Sherman acted, that it's a racial issue? It's not. It just makes you seem racist for thinking that.

brovol summed it up perfectly. Now you are just making excuses for Sherman. We see players do on-field interviews all of the time right after a game. It rarely makes a splash in the news like this, for a reason. He acted like a classless fool.

No, I'm still trying to understand your narrow point of view here: A high school football coach who doesn't believe he's a role model for any of his players. Hopefully you behave better in that setting than you do here.

Yeah?

Then where's the post from either of you decrying the NHL-Canucks and Flames as "thugs" for starting an all-out brawl TWO SECONDS INTO THE GAME the other night?

I didn't say I'M not a role model you moron, just the opposite. Of course I am, or try to be. Did you take English as a second language at Grandville?

Go back and read my threads or have someone who can read-explain them to you, you illiterate idiot.

I wrote more than once that teachers, coaches, ministers, scout leaders, parents, etc. should be kids' adult role models, not someone who just happens to be a gifted athlete, singer, actor, whatever.

I got into coaching because my role models-mentors were my coaches, not my favorite players.
