I agree and I've said for a long time that GS will always change coaches every 3-5 years. They can do well and go make more money or not do well and go coach where the expectations are lower.

I would've preferred we stayed within the coaching tree, but it didn't happen. I also would've preferred we stayed I-AA, but that didn't happen either.
Ah well. That's life.
Ehh, I think that was him just trying to appeal to the fans. The "Hatch Attack" is what we saw in 2009. 2007 he did not install his offense, and just put Jayson in a shotgun read option and let him run wild. 2008 he put one foot in the water with Henton, but that didn't pan out as well. 2009 was Hatch attack and we had seen enough at that point.
Willie actually does run a spread option attack, but their QB the past few years hasn't been one to pitch. Hopefully that aspect returns with the guys we have on the roster. They've put up very similar numbers to us with total points and yards the past 4 seasons. I don't think we have anything to worry about.

You're prolly right. Fritz has had sustained success at three schools so no reason he can't win here.
I just hope he doesn't decide we'd look good in diapers.

Hopefully that new Adidas contract is air tight and he can't make any changes. :)
TK seems to know how crazy we are. He got the message and the final four candidates for the job all were Option based.. he should know by know not the F with the uniforms.

that's what I've been trying to say since we hired him. He runs the option, he just passes a few more times a game than we do.

I am assuming TK is your Athletic Director.
But if he limited his search to option type coaches because your fans would be upset, he should be immediately fired, and replaced with a turnip, as at least the turnip wouldn't make that mistake.
Keep in mind, I think Fritz was a BRILLIANT hire. I think he's an awesome coach who will do extremely well for you. But it has NOTHING to do with the fact that he runs some option plays.

TK (Tom Kleinlein) is in an interesting position as our athletic director. Our previous AD was at best incompetent, at worst a saboteur. Unwilling to take risks. He was a yes man for the university administration. No real connection with the fanbase/alumni/donors. Hell, we lost home field and vantage during the playoffs one year because his staff didn't file the ******* paperwork on time. Think we lost to Delaware in the bitter cold that year.
TK by comparison has been accessible to fans. He tweets. He. RESPONDS. To. Tweets. He is willing to take risks. For the most part I think GS fans like him a lot because he is the antithesis of our last AD. He understood exactly what he was being hired into and who he was replacing and has made a very concerted effort "do things differently." But he does have to walk the tightrope of advancing the program while keeping the fanbase happy. Why worry about keeping the fanbase happy? MONEY. We ain't got none. Scholarships, facilities expansion, all that. We needs the dollars. We are in a delicate time now as a football program (you know, the money sport of a school.)
I like the Fritz hire. I think TK looked at the long term viability of the option in FBS football and made a great hire. The spread/read/meerkat option is pretty popular in FBS. To me, and other GS fans the flex bone option is a major part of our identity. This is the perfect TRANSITIONAL hire offensively. The BIG question to me at least, is what is the NEXT coach down the road going to run.

Sam did a lot of good and I know plenty of boosters/grads who think he was a voice of sanity when a loudmouthed third of the fan base kept howling about FBS. I do think he needed to go for various reasons, but to say he was "at best incompetent and at worst a saboteur" is unfair.
For all the love given to yankee TK and snake-oil salesman Keel, all they've shown so far is a propensity to spout platitudes, spend money, raise prices and let the "oh we don't get no respect" FBS wannabes on gsufans.com dictate how the AD is run.
We'll see whether that works or not.
For Southern's sake, I hope it does.

Name one thing Baker actually did. That didn't "scale back" original plans or get a coaches daddy to fund. He was incompetent, but mostly he was a yes man to a President that would sooner see the athletic program die than give it a thought. Baker was there to simply keep the budget under control. He had a few big backers that wanted GS to stay FCS and a president that wanted nothing to do with athletics to protect him.

You have to spend money to make money.
Sam didn't want to rock the boat. He also had no idea how to fundraise at a Division 1 Athletics program. He also had no idea how a Division 1 Athletics program is supposed to run. I know from people who worked in the program that couldn't stand Sam and how he ran things, that are now happy in college athletics at other D1 institutions.
TK had to deal with a lot of cronyism and "good ole boy" network and a lot of "this is how we've always done things" when he came onboard. There were high schools with better managed athletics departments than ours. Sam would have been a great AD if he had come in, balanced the books and got us out of the financial trouble we were in, and left in 5 years. He stayed 12 years too long.
Part of the problems you're seeing with prices now is the fact that Sam never raised them or pushed the Foundation to raise theirs. We are WAY behind the curve in fundraising. There are a lot of people complaining about it costing $600 to get a chance to buy parking beside our stadium, when an App fan would jump all over that. Their lowest stadium parking costs around $2500 I believe.
We are playing catch up. If that makes TK and Keel the bad guys, then so be it, but if the previous administration had done their jobs correctly then this would be a moot point.

Only $600.00 annually to park at Kidd Brewer
Football Stadium would seem like we were stealing.

So let me guess. You wanted to stay FCS?

Baker's suckitude was so bad it was like nuclear fallout, it last decades.
A lot of very good posts in this thread... a lot of folks had the situation nailed.
