AAC Baseball
We have 8 teams that compete in baseball. WTF? Can we even function as a league with that many teams?

RE: AAC Baseball
Round-robin with 21 conference games. The Big East only played 24 conference games, so everyone would need an additional weekend non-conference series. That may not be easy to schedule but if you get a decent opponent you'll actually improve your RPI compared to Temple.

Despite small numbers, the AAC can and will be a strong baseball conference.

You should not really consider that an issue because there are plenty of teams ECU can play that will raise your RPI. Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Troy, USM, Rice, South Alabama, WKU, Rice, are just a small list of teams that would regularly do a home and home series with ECU. Furthermore, I don't know how the weather is like in Carolina around February but MAC teams hardly ever play at their home stadiums.

And I know you guys would never go for this but I'm sure Dallas Baptist would join for baseball only as an affiliate member and not take much of any conference funds. They are quickly turning into a baseball power program and baseball games do give you more TV content.

The Big 12 functions with just 9 teams. They also play pretty good softball in the Big 12 with just 7.

Lol, why would we ever schedule any of those teams in baseball outside of USM and Rice? We are one of the winningest teams in history in college baseball. We can get much better.

RE: AAC Baseball
Next year AAC member Tulane has the approximate 23rd best baseball recruiting class in the nation this year as per the top two college baseball magazines including Baseball America. Tulane has been to the College World Series twice. We are looking forward to playing Houston,East Carolina and the two Florida teams.

So is Coastal Carolina, Central Michigan, Georgia Southern, and Grambling State is rated higher than ECU. But the point is there are over 45 games a year and ECU is not the only good baseball team in the country. I was actually complimenting ECU and saying you will not have a shortage of good teams to play.

I hope our Tigers can compete despite wearing the wrong shade of blue.

Maybe that would be a nice excuse to add VCU and Wichita. Does UMass play baseball?

Yes. Badly.
And if UMass was ever invited to the AAC, we would probably consider cutting baseball like Temple anyway. Not softball though, as that's a big legacy sport here and we have possibly the best facility in the northeast. We're also big on women's rowing (relatively speaking). But any time a cold weather school has to consider athletic cuts these days, baseball is going to be on the chopping block. Having to wait until the season is half over before you can host your first home game is nonsense. Even the Big Ten is considering "de-emphasizing" baseball or possibly moving to a summer league format and simply not participating in the NCAA tournament (they'd all be ineligible). Plus that would give them some summer content for their cable channel.

Yeah, the southern schools enjoy a built in baseball advantage in both early home games and superior recruiting grounds (due to weather that allows nearly year round play for kids growing up).

VCU to offset Navy for basketball and now Temple for football just seems to make sense.
