I would not want to be the coach to replace him...you would want to be the coach after that guy...

Yeah at this moment Boise fans have an extremely inflated view of what their program should do every season. If the new guy came in and won 8-10 games a year for 5 years, something that at the non-AQ level would be very good anywhere else, they'd think that was a disappointment. The only way Boise fans will be satisfied with the new coach is if he wins 10 games in down years and is undefeated in good ones and that's a really hard standard to meet for even the most premier of programs.

I spent a week in Boise one day. I'm very glad we walked away from the altar rather than sign the very unfavorable pre-nup with those guys.

"Boise is the new Marshall". Yes. But is UCF the new Boise?

Boise will take a step back to the Fresno & Nevada level ... no slouch, but any talk of national championships is gone.

Without Boise in the top 10, the MWC cannot possibly match the AAC in FB. And they're light years behind us in BB.

I wouldn't say they're lightyears behind us in bb after we lose Louisville. They have some strong teams.

No not light years behind, but the difference I would say is the lack of recent tournament success from the MWC. Since 2000 5 of the teams in the AAC have made the sweet 16, 3 made the elight 8, 2 make the final 4, and 1 win 2 titles. The MWC has done nothing but fizzle in the tournament. Right now the AAC has 2 teams that will be here ranked highly and a third in Cincy that I would bet ends up ranked soon while I don't think the MWC has any ranked teams.

Funny, I remember people saying the same thing when Dan Hawkins left and Chris Petersen took over. I would not put Boise St in the grave just yet.

Not to take anything away from UCF current football accomplishment "Congats"... No, UCF is not the new Boise... The American haves other good programs who could match similar accomplishments at any given year (Houston, ECU, USF, Cincy).

Oh, and with the right coach UConn and SMU, although I still believe June will turn SMU around in 14.

Back then, they were only dealing with a coaching change. Now, they will attempt to lure a coach, while at the same time seeing struggles on the recruiting trail and finding themselves in a conference that gives them a disadvantage at making the playoffs and the access bowl.

I'll go ahead and throw them in the in the grave, and shovel a spade or two of dirt on them. Things are much different.

They find a way to be successful so I don't think Boise is going to become a cellar dweller any time soon, but their years of dominance appear to be coming to an end.

I'm not bitter about Boise leaving. We only invited them to try to hang onto the BCS auto bid, and they only came because we had a BCS auto bid. Once that was gone the arrangement didn't make any sense for either side.

I wouldn't say dodged a bullet. Boise was never getting that type of exortion deal in the AAC which is why they went back to the MWC- they knew they could extort them.

Now the MWC will be paying the majority of their TV treasure to a team that will be hovering around .500 and not doing anything to significantly boost TV ratings.

I'm sure Coach Bryan Harsin or Coach Pease is on the phone with BSU already. They played a big part of BSU run with Coach Pete. BSU will be fine. Just as they always have been in their history.

I agree. Houston was supposed to be dead after Briles left. Then it was supposed to be dead after Sumlin left. Good programs attract good talent.

Wow; this is self-serving. Who, exactly, did Houston beat this year or last that makes them such a consistent powerhouse?

Nope. They got five bids last year, and four bids the year before.

New Mexico and UNLV draw 15K a game. SDSU draws 12K. Utah St draws 8K. Fresno St draws 7K. Nevada & Boise draw 6K

Compare Memphis at 16K, UConn at 11K, Cincy at 9K and Temple at 6K.

In some respects, they are ahead of us.

Depends on your criteria. You don't get highly seeded in the NCAA tournament based upon the number of fans you draw.

Point is, there are no elite teams in the MWC as of now. In no respect, as to the quality of basketball, is the MWC anywhere close to the AAC. They may not be lightyears behind, but they are behind. They have been decent at getting multi-bids into the tournament, but they have also been decent in blaringly quick exits.

The AAC currently has 3 elite teams ranked, and a 4th about to be ranked. The MWC has a single team barely in the top 25, and they nearly cooged it against a crappy team at home. I believe that's all that matters.

UDub is a potentially excellent job, one of the most appealing in the Pac-12, and I can understand if Petersen decided he didn't want to tempt fate and have more of his marketability slide downhill after this season.

Boise is a unique situation because unless you find hidden gems like Kellen Moore (from MT), then it's going to be a challenge getting great players to come to school in Idaho. Houston is building a brand new stadium that will already be bigger than Boise's, and is located in the middle of an area where speed and skill fall off of trees. If quality off coaching is similar, then a program like Houston or UCF will have the edge most of the time.

LOL... It's amazing to me how every thread can be a "Houston" thread... LOL

BTW, you do know that Boise State is in the middle of a huge construction project that will remodel Bronco Stadium and is slated to bring seating capacity up to 45K+, right? It's not only Houston who is building right now.
