have you priced 6 foot tall wrought iron fencing?
to fence off that whole area, i bet you're easily looking at 6 figures

Would a brick wall be cheaper? Maybe not as secure, but if someone really wanted to get in there and wreak havoc or steal stuff, I'm sure even the fence they've got now is vulnerable.

Even with it being a day game, what are the odds it would have still been in the parking lot after the game?

I accidentally left my car window down while I was at the game. When I returned and saw it open, I naturally assumed it had been smashed. Nope, it rolled up normally and nothing in the car had been touched.

Could anybody pull that off with all the parking people everywhere?

Probably, especially since it would probably have to be at least 8ft tall. But, if the city wants to keep the bowl game it needs to pay attention to the aesthetics of the stadium. I'm really surprised ESPN has not made demands such as that(ESPN owns the Birmingham Bowl - or whatever its called, now). Can't do a whole lot about the route to the stadium, though...

But the workers need to wear uab shirts or something not affiliated with another team.

As 03-lmfao as this reads, that is a valid concern of mine, too. It's bad enough, that they come to UAB games with that 01-rivals on, some of them go out of their way to rub it in your face to let you know where their true allegiance lies, and in a way, goes to state just how less likely you are to be catered to by them. I personally would not buy a damn thing from any vendor flashing "Updyke Apparrel"...Got news for you, this bug has also bitten certain gift shops at a certain hospital on the southside, selling "Hatfield" (Auburn) & "McCoy" (bammer) gear in what is supposed to be Blazer-related environment.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of this mindset can be chalked up to the "culture of losing." that has a kung-fu grip on our football program.

I coulld not care less what merchandise is in the hospital gift shop whose mission has nothing to do with Blazer athletics.

You are not the first person I've heard say that this place reminds them of "Alcatraz."

I wasn't talking to you, you're just here to distract and draw attention to yourself. I was just saying, if you're a UAB function, then you should be promoting UAB items, not UA or AU.

The hospital gift shop is generally so you can buy gifts for those in the hospital, not promote UAB athletics. Don't we allow Alabama and Auburn fans in our UAB hospitals? How is giving them something UAB related going to lift their spirits?

And yes this a distraction from the stupid thread idea about UAB fans volunteering time and money to clean up that dump. It isn't our home, so why waste anything on it.

Don't count on it, I think your idea's a good one. PM me with anything else you have in mind. I think it's important to at least inform the park board of our concerns and to open a line of communication with them, to the point where either they're receptive to your/our ideas or not. I say let's go for it...For better or worse, we're stuck there for a while, might as well try to make the most of it.

Whatever. You just come by here whenever someone's trying to establish something meaningful to throw a monkey wrench in it with your snarky-assed posts to stroke your sorry ego. If this thread is , as you've already said here, is a "waste of time", then you go watch a Miley Cyrus concert video or something, leave the dialogue here to those concerned.

Miley Cyrus?

If you haven't noticed, this thread has been up all day, and no one has hardly bothered with it. I'm sure once you and Bernie get together, you'll turn Legion Field into the showplace of the south, and the on campus stadium will be a foolish afterthought.

We can't even ensure that people don't wear Bama shirts at the concession stands at Bartow Arena, which UAB owns and has a statue of Gene Bartow in the front. Why would you ever think that this could be combated in Legion Field?

Alright, you have a point. You can't stop someone from wearing whatever the hell they want to wear at a sporting event. But I also understand the angst of the poster who resented it.

As a patron, you also have the right to not do business with said person if you choose to do so. That is the only option afforded you, JD.

Just like I don't buy anything in that damn gift shop. 05-stirthepot

I fully agree that someone working the concession stands at a UAB sporting event should not wear clothing affiliated with any sports team except UAB. However, I've resigned myself to the fact that the UAB athletics department doesn't care so I don't get bent out of shape about it (but my wallet isn't going to get bent out of shape about it either)

I applaud your goal and intent with this. If any improvement comes from it I think it definitely will be worth it. At the least you will be more educated on the issues we have at legion and maybe sharing that with the correct people in the mayor office, could possibly bring about change.

I will be glad to do what I can to help.

I think some of the snide comments are just from those that are letting some of their frustrations get the better of them after saturday's game. I empathize with them. I can be in a really bad mood after a loss, but now try to avoid the message boards until my anger has subsided.

^^

Got to respect someone who takes action instead of just sitting back and complaining. There are community revitalization projects all over the country that are run by volunteers. This one seems pretty monumental, but you never know what can be done until you try.

On the lemonade vendor... I walked by him at the start of halftime and someone was harassing him about his outfit. Pretty sure he heard plenty of that. :-)

I think it's a good start what you are doing. I have no ideas, but would love to hear if a volunteer movement to make lesion field "our" field is worked out. If we have to play there might as well make it ours on gameday.

Are the concession stands run by volunteer organizations? Do the people who run the stands get to keep part of the profits. If so then why can some fans volunteer to work a stand and use the money as an initiative to raise funds for the football facilities (weight room, training areas, OCS) Nothing says fan support to an administration then fans giving up their time to raise money for their school or team.

Just a thought

My one thought on improvements is that it would be nice to have more food options. Having some of the local food trucks in Blazer Village before the game would be nice. Having them in the stadium would be even better, but I'm guessing there are contracts that would prevent that.
