Simply amazing...you have fan bases at about 115 FBS Schools that would gladly trade places with UCF...some of you are just....
Yeah, b/c going to Arizona worked out SO well for UCONN a couple of years ago!!!

Sorry, some of us actually have fan bases that travel. Sending 3,500 or whatever it is to a BCS game, even in PHX, is just sad.

Well building up a massive fanbase than can travel anywhere in the country takes time. The school is only 50 years old and football program has been in FBS for less than 20 years. Can't just flip a light switch to be able to get 17k people to go to Arizona.
About $500 in costs gets added due to the flight requirement. Not to mention a rental car. Versus being able to have the option to drive to New Orleans or Miami.
Sorry for preferring the team go to a game that allows as many fans as possible to be included due to significantly reduced travel costs.

What's sad is anyone, including 'Ville fans, believing the 3500 fans BS that ESPiN and their toadies (ACC) were spreading. It's been proven wrong time and time again, yet you go ahead and continue to drink ESPiN's kool-aid. I hear that's a prerequisite for ACC admission.
Arrogance, thy name is Louisville fan!!!

I know this is a dumb question, but hear me out.
Had the AAC Western Wing with Boise-SDSU-Fresno etc etc happened...You guys think we would have gotten to be able to sign as the 6th conference for Access bowl instead of having to fight with the MAC, SBS, C-USA, etc etc?

I was responding to a UConn fan. I never said one wouldn't prefer Miami or New Orleans as a fan. That makes complete sense.

If I'm arrogant for looking down on taking 3,500 to a BCS bowl then the shoe fits. Thanks for sharing those conspiracy theories about the ACC spreading UConn travel lies. I'm not sure why the ACC would care at all about that topic but don't let reality stand in the way of a good rant.

Here are the 6 Access Bowls.
Contract Bowls
Rose - Big 10 vs PAC 12
Sugar - Bi 12 vs SEC
Orange - ACC vs SEC, Big 10, or Notre Dame
Host Bowls
Fiesta
Chick-fil-A
Cotton
The American had no shot at landing a deal with the Rose, Sugar, or Orange Bowls. The Rose would never have dropped the Big 10 vs Pac12 matchup and adding western teams would not have helped with the Sugar or Rose.
The Chick-fil-A and Cotton bowl both dropped lucrative match-ups to become host bowls (#2 ACC vs SEC #5 and Big 12 #2 vs #3/4 SEC respectively). As such, I think it is highly unlikely that either of those bowls would have signed with the American after what they gave up. In addition, adding a western flank would have done nothing for a bowl like the Chick-fil-A. The only remotely feasible bowl then would have been the Fiesta Bowl. The problem there is that while having a western flank might have appealed to the Fiesta, the eastern half of the conference would not have. Why get stuck with the possibility of hosting an American team from half way across the country when you could end up with a much more favorable (and geographically closer) P5 vs P5 matchup?
I suppose a floating bid between the 3 host bowls might have been possible (like what the Big East had), but I'm not sure any of the bowls would have even taken that. So to make a long answer short, no it would not have helped.

They probably would have secured better second tier bowls and won the G5 spot 9 times out of 10.

3500 UCONN fans at the Fiesta Bowl has been debunked so many times, it's becoming tiresome. Yet ESPiN and their ilk spread this lie around so much, you'd be insane to think ESPiN DOESN'T have it in for UCONN!

PITT and VT were also part of that lawsuit. So you're gonna have to refresh my memory, but, what conference are those two schools in again?

Strange how you never hear Lou Holtz or any other of the college football "experts" say the Fighting Irish doesn't deserve another BCS bowl appearance. NIU has a looong way to go to before they suck as bad ND.
Did you really just compare Notre Dame and NIU in the same sentence? LOL! ND is NIU's wet dream.

I think you're right, especially on your second point (the MWC would have been decimated). With that said, the question was whether a western flank would have secure a contract bowl for the American. I don't really think there was anything the American could have done to secure a contract bowl to be honest.

So you DON'T know what conference PITT and VT are in? Is it possible you can point me in the direction of someone who DOES know? That would help immensely.

Words cannot describe the stupidity of your response. ESPiN could've forced the ACC to take UCONN, but they didn't. Why? You answer me that and I'll shut up. I'm waiting.......
