Meanwhile in Ruston
Meanwhile in Ruston

This is a thread that I plan to keep up to date with what a similar program is doing in the perceived “redneck” south small town of Ruston.

Tech has won 47 games in the last two seasons and been ranked in the top 25 AP poll. They won the WAC regular season last year and beat @Fl St in the NIT before losing the Southern Miss.
They had a letdown to finish the season and lost 3 games on long road trips.

They have a young head coach that was a BCS Assistant at Ole Miss. They press and play an up-tempo style that is fun to watch.

Cliff notes to catch us up on the season.

Tech lost their opener on the west coast to Saint Mary’s. SMC is 5-2 at this point.

CENT and UCA were prison raped by the Dawgs before heading off to the Gulf Coast tournament where the following schools:

UNCG 99-62 Dawgs
UIC 103-78 Dawgs
Saint Bonny 76-72 Dawgs

Raheem Appleby scored 23 points to lead Louisiana Tech to a 76-72 win over St. Bonaventure in the championship game of the Gulf Coast Showcase.

Personally, I think that UALR could have the success that they are having and if we don’t we should be moving things around to try to get there.

Won't happen here for some reason. If you haven't accomplished it in eleven years, you haven't got what it takes. You know that and I know that Kerry, but for some reason, the ones that count don't seem to know it, or just don't five a big ****.

Kinda hard to do with the folks on the board. Most are Fan Club members, and losing every game wouldn't change anything with them. Because, "he's a nice guy." "He runs a clean program." "He talks to us." "We can win that Oklahoma game." We've even got one here who wants to be his agent.

From mjs thread that I deleted: I hate having multiple threads on the same topic....

mjs says:

Meanwhile in Ruston
Middle of the pack Sun Belt team ULL beats LaTech in Ruston 89-80. ULL may be better than middle of the pack. They will probably be in the running for first place just like UALR, ASU, USA, WKU, and GaState. ULM, UAT, and maybe even Texas State may be better than we thought. League race will be extremely interesting/exciting this year- especially with the new tournament format

I figure that win is more about ULL being good than Tech. Tech ought to be in the top tier of CUSA this year. And at this point, ULL may have moved to the top of the favorites pile in the Belt.

I think payton and the high scoring forward they have will be enough to finish in the top two.

Bad part is the coaching. I have never been impressed with the ull coach.

It is nice to see the Arkansas kid doing well (even though I wish we had him).

Big game in Ruston tonight. The fans hate Wednesday night games but NW St. is dropping by to play at 8pm.

Not a a bad loss. OkSt is pretty salty this year.

Next year
Tech ought to be good again next year. They should have back three of their top 5 in minutes played, plus all their big men. Their center already has 44 blocks this season.

What they will lose are their two top 3-point shooters, which will hurt them. Appleby shoots way too many 3s for a 27% shooter.

They are good. They just missed some shots

They are thin and with the new rules I think that is ok.

Can't raise his average if he doesn't keep shooting them.04-cheers
