There was a lot of happy people when this logo went away the first time.
Had seen a lot of talk over the last few years about people having
merchandise with this logo to sell. Makes you wonder if some people are
making some money they wouldn't make otherwise. Just don't buy a couple of
people's love attachment. So strong they need to get a room.

I don't buy ("get" seems a better word) your message board whining. It's so strong, it's ridiculous. 03-lmfao

Change the debate if you'd like, but you don't update tradition.

If this is true and somebody can actually post data supporting those claims, then I guess that is all that matters. However, as an outsider like most not a fan. There is tradition and then there is just a bad looking logo. I guess as an App fan you are going to be biased towards tradition and seeing through mountaineer glasses so I get. I still like the old GaSou logo over the new ones so I guess I may fall into this category as well. Not bashing, JMO, I think App can do better.

App can do a lot better.

I couldn't disagree more. App did better by 1) never making the old fisherman logo sparkle and 2) by getting ride of that logo and replacing it with one that is unique and marketable to students, fans, and alums.

I thought most fans bought the block "A" stuff. What is the percentage or ratio of Block A merchandise vs the old man?

The Block A is still the primary logo. The more traditional Yosef is the secondary logo. I refused to buy anything with the Davey Jones/floating Yosef logo. I'm glad to see it go.

The block A is the primary logo so it is on the most merchandise these other two logos had a pretty good symbiotic existence before the change tbh as both were on sale... Atleast in Boone they were, really don't understand the rebranding because like I said vintage Yosef was still being sold in stores, probably 90s Yosef will be in stores still after the change as well, we are pretty loyal in all things including logos so really the only logos we have ever had are block A 90s Yosef and vintage Yosef, therefore there haven't been enough different logos for any of them to truly disappear off merchandise

Do not appreciate the personal attacks either against myself or my personal logo.

What do you mean, " by getting ride of that logo and replacing it with one that is unique and marketable to students, fans, and alums."
Do you mean R-I-D?

You know, funny thing about several people that say they like the bald old corn cob smoking Yosef. Almost all of them mention that it is unique and marketable. Same exact term.
Yes, it may be unique, because no one has wanted one like it.

Appalachian State made the announcement on the Friday after Thanksgiving, perhaps hoping no one would notice.
SportsLogos.net noticed, and put together the helpful before-and-after image above.

I honestly don't give a rats ass what some moron on cbssports.com (who knows nothing of the school's history), or some faceless idiot on a website called deadspin thinks about the logo. I'm proud of Appalachian's heritage and do not see one issue with the character. I remember a time back many in the country made fun of being Cajun. Those folks didn't bow down to public sentiment. Appalachian folks need to embrace our heritage of fierce independence and rugged individualism. Just like the folks in Louisiana those Mountaineers had to carve out a living in a very harsh environment that was mostly void of electricity and good roads. The people that settled those mountains didn't look like that slick NY City creation we've been using. I'm proud to have old Yosef as Appalachian's mascot.

For me, personally, I don't like the "Victory Yosef". I don't like either of them, actually, but I would pick the floating head over the vintage image.

There is no way to be wrong. It's what is liked.
There is no right or wrong when it comes to a personal like or dislike.
There is no fanbase approval. Most App State fans wear the block A.

Funny Dman.
Enjoy wearing your favorite logo. Still wish the guy shown was a better drawing.

Just for my informal survey, what year did you graduate from ASU?

Ok. You are in the minority.

Yep and they prefer the 70's Yosef secondary logo as is evident here and the MMB.

Overall do not think it's a minority position at all. Time will tell.
Reminds me of how I was always in the minority @ going FBS,
what seems like the minority becomes the huge majority after people have time to think about it.

Soooo, what you're saying is, App Fans don't have a problem with other people snickering at them. Mad props bro. That takes a lot of cojones.

I just don't get how, in this moment when App is looking to the FUTURE of their program, they go and whip out 1971 like it's back in fashion.

I guess it is back to the future as we were playing what is now called FBS level back then...

You are wrong on that, you are in the minority. Call the bookstore tomorrow to see, $$$ talks. As a secondary logo it will perform much better for merchandise.

You were likely touting FBS before we were ready. I was a proponent as soon as the moratorium was lifted as were many App fans. Was not a proponent when the first study was completed in the 90's as we didn't have the funding.

You love that expression, you are wrong. Just black and white. Too bad life seldom works that way. Bookstore might have good sales on a new/old secondary logo, but might be ten times more with a different logo.

Reference the moratorium, four years to prepare, plan, discuss, evaluate, talk with potential conferences and schools, then nothing ironed out during that time. Not good.

RE: "New" App State logo
You claimed to be in the majority, clearly you are incorrect, pretty black and white actually.

This isn't an essay question, it is a discussion with two answers. Vintage Yosef vs. the fisherman, people have spoken with their wallets. In life some people attempt to complicate that which isn't.

Did you voice your opinion on the FBS on message boards or participate in focus groups, meet with universities leaders, and analyze the reports with them? App started talking to others with over 18 months left in the moratorium, fact.
