You're mostly correct.

Actually, going to back and trying to reconfirm, it seems that Villanova is not looking to go football-only anywhere. However, don't be surprised to find out that Villanova is looking to join the AAC for all-sports, using Lincoln Financial Field as their home football stadium, with a longer term plan to get into the ACC.

I don't believe Temple has any plans for an OCS, or if they do , they're stil very preliminary. IIRC they have a fairly long-term lease with LFF and even have their own locker room at the facility. LFF has said they don't want a second tenant as well, which left Villanova to look to the MLS stadium in Chester as their truly only viable option, but it only holds 18K, expandable to 25K. PLus, as other allude to, Villanova doesn't exactly have the warmest relationship with some schools in the American (namely Temple who Villanova fought to keep out for years and had to be bribed to accept them). I highly doubt any of this is true whatsoever.

FTR, our lease at the Linc runs through the 2017 season. When the stadium was originally built, Jeff Lurie (the Eagles' owner) tried to keep us out. However, the stadium was financed with public money and is owned by the city, so the city basically told him that he has to let us play there.

We currently pay the Eagles about $1.6 mil/yr in rent. Rumor is that Lurie is once again playing hard ball and will raise rent significantly.

Just yesterday, a regular poster on board said he was at a function where our new prez spoke. There was a Q&A session, and a question about athletics - specifically an on campus stadium was brought up. The prez basically said that an on campus stadium is currently being evaluated and is a long term goal down the road, and if necessary, we would/could play at Franklin Field (Penn's stadium) for the interim period after we left the Linc (post 2017) and prior to the completion of the on campus stadium.

So in other words, Temple doesn't have any plans (other than a cursory evaluation) for an OCS and the lease isn't as long-term as we'd been lead to believe.

That's a pretty lofty dream since the field they play on now only seats 2500 and has been waiting for upgrades for most of a decade...and there are no football schollies.

So don't bet on that bus leaving the terminal anytime soon.

The last sustained statement from Georgetown on this issue? February 2012.

“Georgetown will continue its membership in the Patriot League in the sport of football and explore all of its options, including our ability to compete as a need-based aid program. We remain committed to our goal of providing our student athletes with an unparalleled academic experience and an athletically competitive football program.”

I have it on good authority that the Villanova administration has been talking with the ACC about effectively replacing Maryland spot in all-sports. The caveat is that the ACC wants Villanova to play FBS for a few years before considering them.

So Villanova's current, double secret plan is to ask for admission into the AAC as a football-only member because the new Big East does not support FBS football and then leave after a handful of seasons. MAC is another option.

As far as a venue goes, they are looking to play in Lincoln Financial Field for their home games. Apparently Temple is in the works to build their own on-campus stadium which will free the Linc up on Saturdays.

Time will tell.

Yes, time will tell you that Villanova will NEVER be in the ACC. 03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

I think he missed the memo that the ACC has already replaced Maryland.

Adding Villanova couldnt be any worse than keeping any of the other old big east teams that are being dominated by the cusa teams in the aac. heck might as well add maine and new hampshire as replacements for rutgers or pitt.

Not to dredge anything up... but...

Has anyone heard of anything remotely like this being in the works?

That would be a terrible football conference. It's a lot easier to improve Tulane basketball than to develop FBS football programs at NBE/C7 schools.

The last I heard on this subject was 4 years ago in the above thread. I hope they do go FBS so we can laugh at them!

RE: Villanova back in the picture for FBS football?
I saw the "Sons of Ben" movie about this soccer fan group that worked for years to bring an MLS team to Philadelphia. It was their efforts that helped get the support for the stadium in Chester. The stadium that Villanova wanted to use.

It made me think about Nova's plan for FBS. I wonder if there is a "Sons of Ben" type football support group at Villanova. Every now and then I hear one of their delusional fans mention the ACC.

Qwerty1 used to work in a Big 10 Athletic Department back in 2010. If he still works with "insiders" who knows.

The few posts he had were usually about whether Villanova would upgrade in Football or would Temple be allowed in the conference once the conference fell apart.

This was all long before the "AAC" ever was a thought. The only ones who would remember any of this would be long time Cincy, UConn or USF posters and probably Wilkie.
