SMU will be good. It's going to be fun to watch it happen. I remember watching the Dallas Cowboys in 1990 and 1991 and thinking they were about to explode. Three Super Bowl wins later, they proved me right. SMU is in a similar situation ... although I'm not predicting three NC's.

At one point during Bob Knight's tenure, Texas Tech went to the tournament4 times in 6 years (2002-07) and made the Sweet 16 for the second time in school history - 1996 being the first. They never made an Elite 8.

Their attendance got an immediate boost from having Knight on campus, averaging 13,700 in his second season on their way to the tournament but after that it hovered around the 10,000 mark +/- a few thousand for most of the next few years. After Knight retired, their attendance declined to around 8,000 more or less where it is today.

It's interesting how similar their situation was to where SMU is today. Bring in a proven Hall of Fame coach. Get a big buzz on campus to ignite interest in the program. It remains to be seen if SMU will be more successful at sustaining any improvements that Brown brings to their program.

SMU seems to be back to their old tricks. Just my opinion.
