A few big basketball match ups
Not sure if this has been posted so please forgive me if it has. ESPN has given CBS sports some big basketball match ups this year. The are:

Dec 28th, Louisville at Kentucky
Feb 22nd, Louisville at Cincinnati
Mar 1st, Louisville at Memphis
Mar 8th, Uconn at Louisville

It's not a bad thing really. I think this is the CBS that comes on your local news station (not the CBSSN channel). Literally anyone with a TV could pick this game up, which is good for exposure.

I just wanted to know what y'all thought about it, big deal? no big deal? I found it interesting, not a big deal really... a national broadcast in the 1-12 channels seems like more than a fair trade for ESPN/ESPN2.

For the unaware, this can be found in the AAC MBB media guide. It has the channel and time for every game this year.

CBS should reach more people... but really what difference will it make CBS vs ESPN? Any huge sports fan will have ESPN, and chances are the game isn't going to flip a recruit or potential student because they lacked cable and saw a game through the rabbit ears.

Was it just an easy cash grab for Espn? It's just interesting.. that's all. I'd love to watch my team on either network.

You all do realize that the AAC has a media deal with CBS, right? ESPN didn't give or sell those games to CBS, CBS selected them.

I did not realize this but thank you for telling me. I thought that basketball season started a new contract strictly with ESPN and they could outsource a certain # of games if they'd like.

Trust me, I'm not knocking on UL. CBS is a huge platform. I just thought it was interesting and was wondering other opinions about CBS vs ESPN.

If they get first pick I can certainly see why they'd take the defending national champ. 04-cheers

This is just an extension of the old BE deal. The old BE always had a deal for some of the bigger games to be on CBS Network.

From the official press release announcing the American's TV deals:

"CBS SPORTS PARTNERSHIP

The American Athletic Conference, demonstrating the continuing vitality of its basketball programs, has entered into an agreement with long-time partner CBS Sports to telecast men’s basketball games through the 2019-20 season
.
The contract includes up to 12 appearances per season. Half of the appearances each season will be conference games. CBS Sports retains the right to have the first selections among conference, non-conference and neutral site games. Financial terms of the agreement were not announced."

Big East/American conference games have been split between ESPN and CBS for decades... CBS has been a partner since 1979. Conference games on CBS tend to draw more viewers, just like most games on OTA verses Cable...
