Have always loved this song, but never saw a live performance anywhere of "the perfect country and western song"
"You Never Even Called Me by My Name" is a song written by Steve Goodman and John Prine. Prine requested to be uncredited on the song, as he thought it was a "goofy, novelty song" and didn't want to "offend the country music community".

Ok, so, I decided to a road trip to the beach on Friday and I took it to a beach further away than I normally go which increased my drive time considerably and I thought to myself, what is a band I hadn't listened to in a while that I ought to break out for a road trip involving around 6hrs +- of drive time round trip......
I decided to go Red Hot Chili Peppers....
I did the following
84' The Red Hot Chili Peppers
85' Freaky Styley
87' Uplift Mofo Party Plan
89' Mother's Milk
91' Blood Sugar Sex Majik
95' One Hot Minute
99' Californiaction
I still for the rest to go through but.... Stadium Arcadium is in progress.
Man, I had forgotten somewhat how funky they are. I always thought of their sound as P Funk + Skater Metal + hip hop. Mother's Milk was very popular when I was in 8th/9th grade with all the great tunes off of that one. I didn't get my first album of theirs till Blood Sugar Sex Magik came out. That cd was amazing. On some crazy sale I got their back catalog at that point and liked their early beginnings. One Hot Minute wasn't bad, but I could tell that the Navarro thing just didn't fit in with them and while he's a good guitarist, his thing and their thing didn't mesh as fluidly as it could have even if that album had some good tracks.
I felt By the Way was too slow for their style.
Stadium Arcadium wasn't bad.
I gotta relisten to I'm With You because I don't remember much about it.
Their last one, The Getaway, was pretty damn good as I recall.
I think I am going to post some deep cuts off the early works later on.

Richard Anthony "Cheech" Marín turned 74 today. Born July 13, 1946. He is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer and activist, who gained recognition as part of the comedy act Cheech & Chong during the 1970s and early 1980s with Tommy Chong.
Basketball Jones featuring Tyrone Shoelaces is a song by Cheech and Chong that first appeared on the 1973 album Los Cochinos. Sung in falsetto by Cheech Marin, playing the title character Tyrone (as in "tie-your-own") Shoelaces, it tells the story of Shoelaces' love of basketball. Musicians who appeared on the record included George Harrison, Billy Preston, Tom Scott, Klaus Voormann and Carole King (so the record became the highest peaking single on which she appeared during 1973). The Blossoms and Michelle Phillips (from The Mamas & the Papas) performed vocals as cheerleaders on the track. The song was released as a single in August 1973 and reached No. 15 on Billboard's Hot 100.
I loved this song as a college student back in those days. I was a passionate basketball fan in those days and the mid seventies were a rocking good time for MT basketball.

Jingle: "AutoMan Transmissions"
"that's 48-0h-1,that's 48-0h-1, that's 48-0h-1"
If some advertising company didn’t earn $1 billion and a bookcase of awards for this jingle, then there is no justice...
