I think the Suicidal Tendencies guy stole his shtick from this guy: Rory Cochran, in the movie Dazed and Confused.

Well, they might have been getting a little long in the tooth in that live performance, but still, unique to say the least.

"Of all the bands who came from the underground and made it in the mainstream," declared Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, “Devo were the most challenging and subversive of all." That quote kinda blows your mind, when you think about who said it.

Here's my favorite DEVO performance. I guess I dig irony a bit. Not much has changed:

Artist: DEVO
Album: New Traditionalists
Cut: "Beautiful World"
1981 Warner Bros. Records/Virgin Records

For some reason, that reminded me of this old song. It reached #2 in the Billboard Hot 100.

When we were kids we used to go to the roller-rink. They played this song as a contest in the middle of the skating session. Whoever could hold themselves up and keep rolling the longest while skating on one skate with the other held straight out front by their hand while bent all the way down, won a prize. I never won, but I got close a few times. It was weird, but I used to love going skating with my friends every week. "Curses! Foiled again! 10-20-30-40-50 or more..."

Artist: The Royal Guardsmen from Ocala, Florida, of all places!
Album: (released as a single)
Song: "Snoopy vs The Red Baron"
1966 Laurie Records

Good memories from Devo.

During the summer of 1980 I was stationed aboard the the USS Guadalcanal LPH-7 as an Avionics Technician in the Marine Corps. After we hit the Med several guys had bought some pretty nice stereo gear at the AAFES.

All of us young guys had tons of cassettes to listen to so we always had music playing in our shop. Guys from different work sections would stop in cause we were booming in the Avionics shop.

One day we hooked up the output from our Sony (great decks back then) to an FM Generator we used for repairing one of the helo radios. You could then tune in to whatever frequency we set it on and listen to us throughout parts of the ship.

We ran an antenna wire the length of our hallway to boost reception. We didn't have a microphone so we plugged a nice set of headphones into the mic jack and would just speak into one of the earpieces. Worked the same as a mic.

My first time ever being a Radio DJ. We didn't DJ all the time but if we were bored we'd add that in telling who the music we were playing was. It got bigger and bigger and we were discovered by the brass. I guess they kinda knew how boring it was doing big squares in the Indian Ocean and never shut us down.

Anyhoo. Devo was just becoming known around then. I had 'Are We Not Men' and it got quite a bit of AirPlay.

I finally saw them in 2010 in Louieville at the Forecastle Festival with my youngest son. Good times. Thanks for bringing that one from the memory vault Good Owl.

"UNITY..."

On the real though, aside from the major hits, and the songs I got the samples for I found him decent for what he was....

Everyone needs some Parliment in the collection

The amount of samples I caught wind of in the rap albums was amazing to me... I hope George Clinton got some royalty checks LOL.

So how old was this video, cause the last time I ever heard Slash discuss anything GNR was not a happy discussion...

And well, obviously Axl has been mum period on anything... hell Chinese Democracy was 6 years ago. Slash has put out 3-4 solo projects for Axl's one.

****************

That said, lets dig up some OG GNR for a minute...

*Yeah, I think GNR did a better version that Aerosmith

GN'R Lies was a truly underrated EP....

WOW, is it possible they patched things up? Getting the line up back together sans I think Steven Adler might be a possibility ...I could even live with the UYI line up.

Adler is still battling his addictions most likely so I doubt he could even play if he wanted to.

Izzy, man, I haven't even heard a good rumor about further solo works of his in the last decade.

I believe both Izzy and Adler played at HOF ceremony a few years ago, sans Axl.

IIRC both Stradlin and Rose were no shows.
